(THU. JUN. 26 - 9:54 AM)

*SEVERE T-STORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY AFTERNOON*

Another round of strong to possibly severe t-storms are possible heading into Thursday afternoon.

A frontal boundary will continue to be draped across the area which will be the focus of showers and t-storms as a wave of energy moves into the region interacting with this boundary and high moisture and instability resulting in showers and t-storms developing - some strong or severe.

Strong winds and a few tornadoes will be possible along with heavy rainfall which may lead to some localized flooding.

The Storm Prediction Center has all of Southeast Minnesota - and surrounding areas of Western Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa - in a Level 2 (of 5) risk and where severe t-storms will be more likely. The timing will be generally between 3:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

*STRONG T-STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY*

A few strong or severe thunderstorms will be possible during the afternoon and early evening hours on Wednesday.

A surface low pressure system is expected to push into South-Central Minnesota by afternoon. It'll lift a warm front north across the Minnesota/Iowa state line with moisture and convergence pooling along it. This will lead to thunderstorms developing with some possibly becoming strong or severe if the atmosphere can destabilize, or recharge, after the morning round of rain.

The main threats would be strong wind gusts and heavy downpours. Hail is a less threat along with a low-end chance of an isolated tornado if the ingredients come together just right.

The Storm Prediction Center has a yellow Level 2 of 5 risk for much of Southeast Minnesota with a lower-end Level 1 risk for areas near the Mississippi River. The severe threat would be mainly in the 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM timeframe.

*HEAVY RAIN THREAT THIS WEEK*

Multiple rounds of showers and t-storms are likely this week with some heavy rain possible at times - most likely coming Wednesday and Thursday.

High pressure centered and situated over the Southeast U.S. will pull Gulf moisture northward into the region with several waves of energy moving through the upper-air flow aloft. This energy will interact with the moisture tied to a frontal boundary which will wobble around the area over the next several days.

Moisture levels are expected to be around 100-200% of normal this time of year indicating the likelihood of heavy rain.

Rainfall amounts of 2-5" is likely across much of Southeast Minnesota from Monday through Thursday. Localized flooding is a possibility along with some flash flooding especially in those areas that see repeated rounds of heavy rainfall.

*SEVERE T-STORMS POSSIBLE MONDAY*

A few strong-to-severe t-storms are possible during the Monday afternoon hours across Southeast Minnesota.

A cold front will slowly advance through the area likely triggering a round of showers and t-storms. Instability will likely develop ahead of the front which may lead to a flare up of a strong or severe t-storm. Strong wind gusts would be the main threat along with heavy downpours. Hail is a secondary threat.

The timing is generally looking like it'll be between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 2 - of 5 - risk laid out from Austin to Rochester to Kellogg and points southeast. A less threat - Level 1 - is northwest of that line.

*WEEKEND HEAT WAVE*

Temperatures are expected to skyrocket into the lower or middle 90s for afternoon highs on both Saturday and Sunday across Southeast Minnesota.

There will also be quite a bit of moisture in the air leading to dew point temperatures pushing into the lower or middle 70s making it feel awfully muggy.

The heat index, or feels-like temperatures, when combining the air temperature along with the dew point, will surge into the range of 100° to 105° during the middle to late afternoon hours.

As a result, an EXTREME HEAT WATCH is in effect for all of Southeast Minnesota for both Saturday and Sunday.

Make sure to limit time outdoors and seek plenty of shade while also staying hydrated by drinking water.

(THU. JUN. 19 - 8:58 AM)

*STRONG T-STORMS POSSIBLE LATE THURSDAY-EARLY FRIDAY*

A storm system passing through the region will bring the return of showers and t-storms to Southeast Minnesota overnight Thursday into Friday morning.

The low-level jet stream is expected to increase through the night with the nose of the jet interacting with moisture along a frontal boundary which will trigger showers and t-storms across portions of North-Central Minnesota by late evening or early overnight.

These showers and t-storms will then dive southeast through the night and likely enter Southeast Minnesota sometime after 3:00 AM. They'll like be out of the area by around 9:00 AM.

There is a low-end severe threat with these t-storms. Should a few cells flare up, hail and gusty winds would be the main threat along with heavy downpours.

The Storm Prediction Center has a Level 2 (of 5) risk - and a higher threat - along and north of a line from Winona to Zumbrota to Fairbault. While south of that line, there's a Level 1 (of 5) risk and a a lower threat.

(MON. JUN. 16 - 8:45 AM)

*SEVERE WEATHER RISK LATE MONDAY*

There is a conditional threat for the potential of severe t-storms Monday evening across Southeast Minnesota.

The threat will be determined by how much the atmosphere can recharge, or recover, after the morning round of showers and t-storms that some are seeing. If it can, severe t-storms will become likely sometime in the 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM time frame as a cold front passes through. Hail and damaging wind gusts would be the main threats along with heavy downpours. A small chance of a tornado if the ingredients come together perfectly.

The Storm Prediction Center maintains an orange Level 3 (of 5) risk for portions of the area into Central Minnesota with lower chances further southeast.
