The Rubber Band was invented in March in 1845; Stephen Perry patented the first rubber bands made of vulcanized rubber. Perry invented the rubber band to hold papers or envelopes together. But we have a better use for them.
Try this rubber band activity in your classroom:

You will need: A plastic or tin container and rubber bands that are large enough to stretch around the container
1. Stretch several rubber bands around the container so they are lined up like guitar strings.

2. Pluck and play. Notice how rubber bands of different sizes make different tos..
3. Listen to “Play your Instruments and Make a Pretty Sound” CD to learn about many different instruments and the sounds they make.
4. Finally, download the recording "Sally the Swinging Snake," play the movement song Rubber Band Man, and see the children stretch, snap and fly like a rubber band! http://ow.ly/5Z9830nXniY

March is Music in Our Schools Month®, and "All Music All People" is the theme for 2019.

The purpose of MIOSM is to raise awareness of the importance of music education for all children – and to remind citizens that school is where all children should have access to music. MIOSM is an opportunity for music teachers to bring their music programs to the attention of the school and the community and to display the benefits that school music brings to students of all ages.
Use music and movement together to inspire learning important literacy, language and math skills.
Our "Literacy, Language and Math Through Music and Movement" CD collection teaches these key topics through developmentally appropriate songs and activities. Research shows that children learn critical concepts more quickly and thoroughly through ACTIVE LEARNING. These award-winning songs will increase and enhance classroom instruction. http://ow.ly/S1vv30nXniD

Black History Month Featured Song: "K*m Ba Ya" is an African-American spiritual whose lyrics are credited to the Gullah (or Geechee) people of the South Carolina and Georgia coast; the melody traveled all over the world including the United States and Africa. The song has a rich history symbolizing togetherness, harmony and empathy, and was often sung around campfires and by protest groups. #BlackHistoryMonth (Source: http://ow.ly/rhGi30nu4uN) http://ow.ly/ndMX30nu4uO

Black History Month Featured Song: "This Little Light of Mine" was a children's song and an old spiritual, reintroduced during the Civil Rights Era as a song of personal empowerment. Its lyrics express the importance of unity in the face of adversity. Its refrain sings of the light in each individual and how, whether standing alone or joining together, each little bit of light can break the darkness. The song has since been applied to many struggles but was an anthem of the Civil Rights Movement. (source: [http://ow.ly/Zgra30nu4uI] http://ow.ly/BEjD30nu4uJ

Black History Month Featured Song and our FREE DOWNLOAD OF THE MONTH :
"Michael Row the Boat Ashore."
It is an old American folk song that hails from the slave era, and became a popular anthem during the Civil Rights Movement. Its existence was first noted in the early 1860s, although the song itself is probably much older. The song was noted in letters between teachers and abolitionists, who heard it while on St. Helena Island in South Carolina. (Source: http://ow.ly/3BMl30nu4uE) http://ow.ly/1mbw30nu4uF
