UPDATE: RALEIGH NURSE ARRESTED AND LICENSE SUSPENDED FOLLOWING SEXUAL ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS AT REX HOSPITAL
Raleigh, N.C. — A Raleigh nurse has been arrested and his license summarily suspended after two patients reported s*xual assault incidents that allegedly occurred at Rex Hospital in November, according to the Raleigh Police Department and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
On November 21, 2025, around 11:39 a.m., Raleigh Police officers responded to 4420 Lake Boone Trail (Rex Hospital) after a patient reported being s*xually assaulted by a nurse while coming under the effects of sedatives. During their investigation, detectives identified a second victim with similar allegations.
Police consulted with the Wake County District Attorney’s Office and subsequently secured multiple felony warrants for Brayan Alvarez-Ortiz, a registered nurse licensed in North Carolina. With assistance from the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, members of Raleigh Police Department’s Fugitive Unit took Alvarez-Ortiz into custody. He was processed on the following charges:
• S*xual Contact Under Context of Medical Treatment (4 counts)
• Second-Degree Forcible S*x Offense
• First-Degree Kidnapping (4 counts)
• S*xual Battery (4 counts)
As the criminal investigation unfolded, the North Carolina Board of Nursing initiated its own review. According to a certified Order for Summary Suspension issued November 26, 2025, the Board determined that emergency action was required to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
The Board’s findings state that:
1. Alvarez-Ortiz held a valid Registered Nurse license set to expire May 31, 2026.
2. A complaint received from Rex Hospital detailed the initial patient’s report involving inappropriate s*xual touching after the removal of a catheter.
3. After that complaint, a second patient reported similar conduct, prompting further investigation.
Based on these findings, the Board ordered Alvarez-Ortiz’s nursing license to be immediately and summarily suspended pending a full hearing, scheduled for January 28, 2026. The Board also noted that all disciplinary actions will be reported to national and federal regulatory entities, including NURSYS and the National Practitioner Data Bank.
The Raleigh Police Department reports that the case remains active, and detectives are working to determine whether additional victims may exist.
