Watching Amazon

Brent Leary and John Lawson with another "Week in Watching" episode of Watching Amazon to discuss another wild week in Amazon.com news, including why Jeff Bezos won't be getting any Christmas presents from the White House, since, according to Forbes, Amazon is responsible for knocking $400 million off of the current President's net worth.

We're back with this week's "ripped from the headlines" subjects, including:
1. In another milestone in #ecommerce, Amazon.com is expected to surpass Macy's as the country's #1 seller of apparel. Is this another brick in the wall for brick and mortar?
2. Amazon has signed contracts with apartment owners and managers representing more than 850,000 units across the U.S. to begin installing Amazon locker systems in their buildings, as part of their "Last Mile" strategy.
3. Alibaba.com is coming out with their own smart speaker to compete with Amazon, Google, Apple and the rest - but taking it in a different direction.
4. Forbes reported that our current president's net worth fell by $600 million dollars this year, and estimated that $400 million of that loss comes at the hand of Amazon. We talk about how they came up with that figure, and why Jeff Bezos may not be getting an invite to the White House this holiday season...

Watching Amazon

The Watching Amazon guys - John Lawson and Brent Leary - are talking about Amazon.com's "Type 2" decisions for this episode. Check out what Type 2 decisions are and how they led to the Fire Phone flop, but also Amazon Web Services, #AmazonPrime and #AmazonEcho / #Alexa. And floating warehouses....

On this one "your boys" John Lawson and Brent Leary focus in on what Amazon.com calls "Type 2" decisions and how they have led to some of the companies biggest success stories, like #AmazonWebServices and #AmazonPrime....as well as the Fire Phone. And while the phone wasn't a success it's a good example of how the strategy and culture around Type 2 decisions allows for fast failures and quick discoveries of what has potential and should be further invested in.

Watching Amazon

John Lawson and Brent Leary of Watching Amazon do a "Week in Watching" where they hit on a few of the most interesting developments around Amazon this past week, including why they feel #Atlanta has a shot at becoming the location for Amazon.com's second headquarters. And why Amazon has passed Google for the title of most feared organization by other companies.

It's time for another "Week in Watching" episode, and so many things happened that it was hard to choose what to focus on. But we narrowed it down to:
1. Amazon.com's announcement they will hire 120,000 folks for the holiday season and that might mean for the whole retail sector.
2. In the U.S., time spent on the Top 5 digital-first shopping apps — #Amazon, Amazon Shopping, Wish, Etsy and zulily this year — grew 44 percent in the first half of 2017 compared with the first half of 2016.
3. The goofiness continues around Amazon's search for a second HQ, as the mayor of Kansas City, MO reviews 1000 items on Amazon in hopes of making their bid more attractive. But sorry Ralph Anderson, we don't agree with you about Atlanta not having a chance...
4. Amazon replaces Google as the "corporate boogeyman"; the company others worry about the most, according to a recent study.

And check out the intro and tell us what you think!

Watching Amazon

John Lawson and Brent Leary are back with another episode of Watching Amazon, featuring This Week in Watching. And yes, one of the things they touch on is the prospect of a new city being created in Metro Atlanta. A city called Amazon, GA. They also discuss Amazon.com and Google dueling #voicefirst device announcements, and the question of whether Amazon should buy Twitter.

We're back with a new edition of Week in Watching! This week, "ripped from the headlines", we talk about implications of the dual product announcements from #Amazon and #Google and what it means for the battle of the #voicefirst smart home. There was an intriguing article that made the case for why Amazon should buy #Twitter, which had us thinking. We discuss how we may be doing Watching Amazon from Amazon, GA if things work out. And talk about Amazon's 27 branded product lines, and why Brent is just fine with one of them in particular.

Watching Amazon

John Lawson and Monique Johnson discuss former first lady Michelle Obama's keynote session at this week's #Inbound2017 conference from HubSpot. She had some very interesting things to say about her experiences living in the White House the past 8 years.

We're on location at HubSpot's #INBOUND17 event in Boston! And Monique Johnson joins John Lawson and Brent Leary (behind the camera) to discuss Michelle Obama's keynote conversation. Yeah, we know there's not much Amazon watching going on here, but it's not every day you see a former first lady in person talking about her experiences in the White House. Or you get to hear Monique call The Bold One old. So enjoy this one for the MOs - Michelle O and Mo!

Watching Amazon

John Lawson and Brent Leary introduce a new Watching Amazon segment called This Week in Watching with quick takes on news that caught their eye this week.

John Lawson and Brent Leary are back for another episode of Watching #Amazon. This time we're debuting a segment we're calling This Week in Watching, where we do some rapid fire discussions on recent news items that caught our attention. This time around we hit on:

* Being able to order booze on Amazon
* Amazon's recent partnership with #Microsoft allowing #Alexa and #Cortana to be friends
* Amazon being sued by people claiming to have bought bootleg eclipse glasses that caused them to suffered injuries
* Amazon buying up store space in shopping malls to use them as distribution centers. What we call "business jujitsu" - meaning they basically put these stores out of business with their online success, and now they're buying the space those businesses were in for local distribution... at pennies on the dollar.
