Let’s get your soil "Garden-Ready" 🌱

Ever wonder what those three numbers on the fertilizer bag actually mean?

Our Williamson County Horticulture Extension Agent, Gary Pastushok, makes it easy with the "Up, Down, and All Around" rule:

• Nitrogen (Up): Promotes lush, green top growth.

• Phosphate (Down): Builds strong, healthy roots.

• Potassium (All Around): Improves overall plant health and stress resistance.

Gary’s Pro-Tips:
1. Test, Don't Guess: Get a soil test before you add anything! You might already have what you need.

2. Easy on the Compost: A little goes a long way. Too much can lead to phosphorus buildup.

Have you ever wondered how the bluebonnet won the title of Texas State Flower?

We all know bluebonnets are the ultimate sign of spring and the perfect backdrop for our favorite family photos, but they actually had to fight for that crown! 👑🪻

Long before they were a Texas icon, these "dainty" wildflowers had to win a 1901 "Flower War"!

Dive in here to see how the underdog won the heart of Texas:

The Bluebonnet Battle: How a Tiny Wildflower Won the Heart of Texas If you have lived in Texas for more than five minutes, you know that spring isn't just a season. It is a bluebonnet pilgrimage. We pull over on busy highways, dodge fire ants, and stage family photoshoots all

We’re throwing some serious shade today! 🌳✨

Gary, our local AgriLife Horticulture Expert, is over in the Gardener’s Corner explaining why those patchy lawns under our mature oaks and elms are a losing battle.

If your shade spots get less than four hours of sun, it’s time to lean into the native ground covers that actually thrive there!

From the fast-spreading Frog Fruit to the lush textures of Texas Sedge, discover his top picks for a low-maintenance, water-wise yard that stays green even in the shadows. 🌿
