It saddens me that in the same day I experienced such an outpouring of love and support, I also experienced such hate and ignorance. I ministered in my church’s praise dance ministry this morning to the songs, “I Know I’ve Been Changed/Blessed and Highly Favored” with my beautiful, amazing sisters pictured below. Then this afternoon I went to get a sandwich to eat and was accosted by a 45 supporter pressuring me to buy 45 gear (shirts, flags,hats, etc.). I said no politely and then when he continued to press me more vigorously, I said no thank you again and that I would be voting for Harris, to which he promptly decided to call me a “stupid ni****”.
I wanted to say so much to him; I wanted to eviscerate him with my words; I wanted to make him feel small and disrespected, like he was TRYING to make me feel. Instead, as the song goes, 🎶 I know I’ve been changed 🎶 because The Holy Spirit turned me towards my car and told me to leave without saying a word… which is what I did.
This was one of those moments I thought, I could be another statistic; he may have a gun and do I really want to get shot because I chose this location to stop and have a sandwich?? Just because I disagree with you, does not give you the license to treat me in a rude or disrespectful manner. And I have never, ever responded to the term “ni*****”, because I’m not one. My mother taught me to never allow people to define you; you define yourself!
Please, make sure to make your voices heard by voting! This type of hatefulness and racism that has been advocated by and, quite frankly, truly embraced by 45 has no place in anyone’s American Dream. Pray and vote, pray and vote, because we can’t go back to this type of behavior. This. Effects. Us. All. *hugs 🙏🏾💜🦋
