Who else is out here risking it all for a little sunshine and serotonin? 😂

Day 2 with was mountain biking day.

What most people won’t see in the videos is that I almost sat this one out.

I started the day excited and confident, but somewhere along the way I got in my head about my footwear and convinced myself I wasn’t prepared enough. Honestly, I was ready to hang back, take photos, and cheer everyone else on.

If you know me, you know I love being the hype woman.

Thankfully, the people around me weren’t having it.

After a much needed pep talk, they reminded me that my footwear didn’t matter nearly as much as I thought it did. More importantly, they wouldn’t let me sit on the sidelines.

So I sent it.

The Slaughter Pen Skills Park was exactly what I needed to build confidence. Lap after lap, things started clicking. Then we headed to The Castle.

At first the berms and speed intimidated me. Then suddenly I was having the time of my life.

Weight off the seat.
Hips over seat.
Don’t squeeze your knees.
Don’t pull up.

Little by little, confidence replaced fear.

By the end of the day I was catching air, laughing nonstop, and completely understanding why people become so passionate about mountain biking.

A huge thank you to , , , and for the constant encouragement, coaching, and tips. You somehow managed to help me improve without overwhelming me, and that made all the difference.

This retreat keeps teaching me the same lesson over and over:

Sometimes the biggest obstacle isn’t the trail in front of you.

It’s the story you’re telling yourself before you ever start.

Hey Zeke… meet Atlas.

Somewhere between losing you and learning how to breathe again… he found me. 🩵

Gosh, thank you , , , Robin with and everyone else that were so freaking encouraging today. 🥹

My battle Sandy was right, a lot of people talk themselves out of it before they even get on the trail. And it can be intimidating just to go on a retreat to try something new let alone try a brand-new sport. I’m so thankful for her encouragement as long as everyone else that was there with me and cheering today. I can definitely see how this is so addictive and it reminds me so much of the camaraderie we have in the military! We truly embrace the suck today!

So incredibly thankful for this veterans retreat already. The slower pace, the movement, the mountains, the conversations, the laughter with strangers becoming friends… I can physically feel my nervous system starting to soften. Sometimes healing looks less like “fixing yourself” and more like reconnecting with nature, community, and the parts of yourself that got buried under survival mode. 🌿
