Sactown Magazine

Sactown Magazine Sacramento's city magazine. Among those awards is the Maggie Award for Best City & Metropolitan Magazine by the Western Publishing Association.

Sactown magazine is the Sacramento region’s largest and most respected city magazine, with an average circulation of 40,000 and with over 30 national awards for publishing excellence in the areas of editorial, design and photography—more than any other magazine in Sacramento’s history. Sactown was founded in 2006 by journalists Rob Turner and Elyssa Lee in an effort to bring a national quality mag

azine to California’s capital city. While Rob was born and raised in Sacramento, he spent a decade in New York City, where he met Elyssa at Money magazine. Between them, they have written for publications as diverse as New York, InStyle, Money, Fortune, SmartMoney, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Metropolis and U.S News & World Report. Sactown covers the region, from Davis to Folsom and from Elk Grove to El Dorado Hills, Roseville and Auburn.

Nearly 30 years after 2Pac’s “California Love” debuted, a snippet of its lyrics—“from Oakland to Sactown”—rings prophetic these days as the team formerly known as the Oakland A’s prepare for their home opener at Sutter Health Park today — March 31. Of course, it’s been far longer than three decades that the capital city has been chasing its baseball dreams, and now they’re about to come true (at least for a few years). But what does it all mean for Sacramento’s prospects as a permanent home to America’s Pastime? Mark Kreidler—a longtime journalist for ESPN and The Sacramento Bee, and one of our city’s most astute sports observers—weighs in on why the next few years could be a home run, one way or the other. https://www.sactownmag.com/a-sporting-chance-athletics-in-sacramento/

With less than a week before Halloween, chances are Evangeline’s has all the last minute ghoulish goods you need. What started 50 years ago as a small Old Sacramento shop for antiques and jewelry has been reinvented over the decades by Deborah Chaussé (pictured), the founder’s daughter, into a singular institution with a fantastical blend of the wild, weird and wonderful.
