In a full circle performance the No. 71 in USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship competition, Penngrove, Calif.’s Buddy Kofoid prevailed in Tuesday’s Jason Leffler Memorial at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway. The $12,500 win mirrored the 1997 national championship for Jason Leffler, when he won the title in a No. 71 owned by Pete Willoughby with crew chief Keith Kunz. Keith Kunz Motorsports led Kofoid to Tuesday’s victory, sweeping past Alabama’s Kevin Thomas, Jr. on lap 13 en route to the victory. Photos by Paul Trevino and Tom Macht

Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway hosts the 11th annual Jason Leffler Memorial on Tuesday night November 25, featuring the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets competing for $10,000 to win. The California Lightning Sprints will also be competing in their 2025 season championship race. More than 30 National Midgets will take on the one-third mile dirt track, racing in memory of Long Beach, California’s Jason Leffler.

The season finale is “all gas, no points” with the Berco Redwood Late Models competing in Twin 40-lap features. 2015 IMCA Sport Modified California State Champion “Fast Fred” Ryland of Brentwood took his talents to the pumpkin and soapy-water covered Madera Speedway on Saturday night, winning the 19th annual Pumpkin Smash Halloween Bash Enduro. The veteran of more than 100 dirt track wins at most of California’s dirt tracks challenged the slippery one-third mile at the Madera Fairgrounds to perfection, outlasting 2024 winner Ryan Hart of Dos Palos for the win.

NARC 410 King of the West Sprint Cars make their only 2025 stop at Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway on Saturday night October 25th, bringing 900 horsepower sprint cars to the one-third mile dirt track. The Winged Warriors will be joined by Western Midget Racing and So-Cal Dwarfs in their championship finales, plus the vintage racing history with Western Racing Association.
