The new Matías Bombal’s Hollywood Cinema Craft Series of repertory, art and foreign films at the Orinda Theatre continues in October with NIGHT OF THE DEMON (UK,1957). Director Jacques Tourneur's supernatural thriller from a brief period of ousting British movies in a horror vein often overshadowed by the "more gore" films of the Hammer Studios era of Great Britain, stars Dana Andrews and Peggy Cummings. Released in a truncated version in the USA in 1957 as CURSE OF THE DEMON, we are showing the longer original British release version for the very first time in Orinda. Matias Bombal will introduce the picture and lead a discussion afterwards.

Did you know that the 3rd, 74 seat Egyptian themed auditorium adjacent to the Orinda Theatre was built and opened in 1996? It's one of the highlights of the one hour tour of the historic 1941 Orinda Theatre conducted by Matias Bombal the last Sunday of each month at 11 a.m. You'll find out that in the mid 1940's this space was the alley between the original Orinda 1941 auditorium and the bank building next door, but became a theatre when the "New Movie Palace Wing" was constructed in 1996 by Allen Michaan. Matias will discuss the decorators who made the hieroglyphs, and the atmospheric design which includes twinkling stars in the ceiling which gives you the feeling of being outside the portal of an Egyptian temple at night whilst watching a movie.
