🚨This is important! 🚨 We all know music and entertainment venues were the first to close and will be the last to open due to the coronavirus pandemic. Please, if you have a free minute, head to www.SaveOurStages.com to send a letter to congress urging them to support the RESTART act! It literally takes less than one minute. Your voice matters! Lets help NIVA - National Independent Venue Association in their mission to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States (and right here locally in Sacramento)! Go to SaveOurStages.com right now and PLEASE help spread the word.

Remember reading at coffee shops? Those were the days! Can’t wait to be doing this again. Stay safe and healthy, Sacramento. We sure do miss you! (Big thanks to on IG for taking this photo back in late November 2017 when David Garibaldi was on our cover! It’s one of our faves from the archives)

It's Friday night and we're really truly deeply missing live music right about now. At least we've got a lot of creative locals offering live streaming options these days!

Speaking of, some of the very kind and thoughtful folks in this here photo have organized a Facebook Live concert for tomorrow evening (Saturday, May 2) that is going to raise money for Submerge! Three awesome local singer-songwriters -- Joseph Kojima Gray, Tatiana Mcphee and JonEmery Dodds -- are going to perform a "Song/Story Swap" live from Burgie's, a converted garage/venue a few minutes outside of Sacramento in Arbuckle. Check out Resurge Submerge - FB Live Fundraiser for more info and be sure to tune in Saturday at 6 p.m. over on Burgie's page. Thanks to everyone involved in putting it together!

Here are some other awesome local buddies and partners of ours that are doing cool events via live stream:

Concerts in the Park, Sacramento are having local DJs take over their Instagram Live every Friday night from 7-8 p.m. starting TONIGHT. Check out CIP Live for details.

Harlow's curated an awesome lineup for The Sacramento Bee's latest "Band Together" live stream which is literally going on RIGHT NOW over on The Bee's FB page.

The Torch Club is doing a three-day virtual party starting TONIGHT to support their staff. Head over to their page for more info.

Even though we can't all be together we thank all these folks and everyone else who are putting creativity out into the universe during these tough times.

The (virtual) show must go on!

Our friend and longtime Submerge contributor Justin Cox (of The Polyorchids) just put out a new solo EP today called "On the Water Alone." It's free to stream but if you decide to purchase it he's donating all the money to Submerge! We're blown away, thank you so much Justin!

"The EP is free to stream or download on Bandcamp, but you can also pay what you want. Any money we make will be donated to Submerge Mag, which has had to halt publication because of the pandemic. Melissa and Jonathan, who created and have run the magazine for a decade, have endlessly supported Sacramento’s arts and music scene. They’ve also let me write about some of my favorite local bands."

Listen or purchase here: thepolyorchids.bandcamp.com/album/on-the-water-alone-ep

Thanks again Justin! We're humbled!

Stay home. Stay safe. Stay healthy. And stay entertained with some great new tunes! (Read more about the EP in the original post below)

Hey everyone. Jono and Melissa here, co-founders and publishers of Submerge. We just wanted to take a quick moment to extend endless gratitude to everyone who has reached out to us the past couple weeks to make sure we're OK and especially to those who donated to our "help save Submerge fund." It has been overwhelming to say the least to learn how much this publication means to the community. All the texts, calls, emails, messages and comments we've gotten have really helped give us a lot of strength and confidence that we can and will make it through this. Thank you to our loyal readers, to all of our awesome contributors and especially to all of our advertising partners. And a special shout-out to everyone on the front lines fighting this virus. You are heroes. Stay healthy, stay home, we'll be back creating rad content for you hopefully in no time. 📸: Steven Chea

This isn't over yet! We're going to fight to bring back Submerge in print! We just need some help until our amazing and wonderful advertisers are all back up and running!

Maybe you've got a good job you know is secure? Maybe we've written about your band or art or business before?

A million thanks to those who have contributed already. You don't know how much it means to us!

A Note From Our Publishers:

Dear readers. We need your help.

Let us start by saying that our hearts go out to everyone in this very difficult time. Remember, we are all in this together.

The COVID-19 pandemic is poised to decimate Submerge Magazine, Sacramento’s music, art and culture publication.

In our 12-plus years of publishing Submerge, we have been through a lot of ups and downs as a small locally owned business, but this whole situation is the most serious we’ve dealt with yet.

Being a free publication, 100% of our revenue comes from our advertising partners, the majority of which are nightclubs, music venues, bars, event promoters, festivals, etc.

With all of the recent business closures and concert and event cancellations, all of that advertising revenue has disappeared in the blink of an eye and we are uncertain as to when it will return, if ever.

As a result, we have been left with the incredibly difficult decision to temporarily suspend the print edition of Submerge Magazine, effective immediately.

We truly hope to be able to weather this storm and to be back to our normal biweekly print schedule as soon as possible, but the reality is we just don’t know when that’s going to happen.

We’ll try and keep you informed as things progress. We’re just taking it day by day and trying to stay positive (and healthy).

As much as it pains us to have to ask for handouts, which is something we’ve never done before, we are humbly asking for donations from our community to help us get through this unprecedented and difficult time.

If you have valued and appreciated our endless coverage and support of the local music and arts communities over the years, please consider making a one-time or recurring donation to help keep Submerge around.

Please, if you can, visit SubmergeMag.com/contribute (or hit the link below) to donate.

At the very least, please spread the word and SHARE that Submerge needs help from the local music and art communities now in order to continue providing free content for you all in the future.

Thank you, Sacramento. No matter what happens, we love you.
