students are participating in a “CSU-wide” hunger strike organized by the in solidarity with people in Palestine facing famine.

There are currently four strikers at Sac state, with a total of 25 across the CSU-system.

The strikers had four demands of the entire CSU system: fully divest from companies that are complicit in the humanitarian crisis; abolish the current time, place and manner policy; cut financial ties to Israeli institutions; and adaptation of the SF State’s human rights investment policy.

“The chancellor is actively stepping in to make sure that our presidents don’t contribute to this effort.” said Amal Dawud, an SPJ board member as well as a junior political science and journalism major. “She’s actively putting roadblocks up, refusing to let them make comments, refusing to let them move forward on divestment or even move forward on divestment conversations.”

president announced Sacramento State will not go through with a temporary operational control model for its colleges in an update emailed to faculty on Tuesday.

In a statement to The State Hornet, Sac State said university leadership decided to cancel the model’s implementation after a careful evaluation of current fiscal challenges and feedback from students, faculty and staff during a total of eight open forums.

“Sacramento State continues to face significant budget challenges due to the state’s proposed $375 million cut to the CSU, and we continue to explore all possibilities to address these challenges,” Sac State said in an email statement to The State Hornet.

Sac State has proposed a Student Success Fee as part of the effort to address its $37 million budget deficit and avoid cutting classes for upcoming semesters. President Luke Wood said the fee would fund essential services and expand class offerings, with the aim of ensuring the continuation of required courses.

According to Sac State, the current fall 2025 schedule reflects a 46% reduction in course offerings, based on available funding without the support of the proposed fee.

The $360 per semester fee will be determined by student vote within each individual college. Students can vote on the Student Success Fee online from Tuesday, May 13 at 8:00 a.m. to Wednesday, May 14 at 5:00 p.m.

Redshirt freshman guard Mikey Williams has committed to Sacramento State, per . Williams reportedly came to Sac State for $200,000, per .cunningham.

Williams played 18 games for the University of Central Florida with a scoring average of 5.1 points per game, before entering the transfer portal.

A 4-star recruit coming out of high school, Williams was a coveted recruit before facing felony gun-charges in 2023. He committed to Memphis upon graduation before transferring to UCF.
