Great press for Cindy Lawson's new single "The Reckoning" from Stargazer Music Magazine!
Crank it up, yo!
Cindy Lawson has always carried a reputation for defiance. Bursting out of Minneapolis in the ’80s, she fronted the all-female band "The Clams," trading stages with The Replacements and Soul Asylum before carving her own path through the city’s fierce Punk underground. But after years of momentum, a crushing betrayal within the industry drove her away from the stage, silencing one of its most dynamic voices.
For more than two decades, she stayed away—until 2021, when her return was nothing short of incendiary. Cindy tore through the Midwest and beyond, racking up hundreds of shows alongside names like Everclear and The Dollyrots, reclaiming the urgency that made her an icon of the Minneapolis scene.
Her recording comeback was just as bold. "New Tricks" in 2022, her first album in 25 years, announced that she hadn’t lost a step. It spun across international radio, winning airplay on Little Steven’s Underground Garage show. A year later, the "Don’t Come Crying To Me" EP turned heads all over again, while critics and radio stations alike marking the record among the year’s strongest releases.
All of this brings us to her latest chapter. Her new single and video, “The Reckoning,”featured below, is a venomous Punk broadside—snarling, unflinching, and utterly cathartic. It’s more than just a release; it’s the sound of an artist who has nothing left to prove and everything left to say.
In a recent interview, I asked Cindy to tell me more about the song, she told me:
"This song is for anyone who's been burned, betrayed, and silenced. It's that universal satisfaction when someone evil finally gets taken down. And for me, it's not just about them—it's about reclaiming the part of myself they tried to destroy."
And that brings me nicely to the featured single - "The Reckoning."
Razor-sharp and unrelenting, this track strikes like a venomous confession turned battle cry. It brims with raw defiance, spitting fire at betrayal while twisting vengeance into something triumphant. With snarling Punk urgency and a vocal delivery that refuses to flinch, it transforms anger into art, turning scars into weapons. This isn’t just catharsis—it’s a reckoning on record, proving that survival can roar louder than the betrayal that tried to silence it.
To close, this single won’t gather dust in any collection, and will keep heads bouncing and feet tapping from sofa to stage. So why not clear a space, and give Cindy Lawson a try for 2025.
