October 2025 is our 1 year anniversary!! To celebrate we’re sharing some sneak peeks 🗞️ Read below for an excerpt of our Letter from the Editors this month ❣️🕸️
Dear reader,
It has been a year since we put together the first issue of The Sapphic Sun. We were correct about a lot of things right out of the gate. That’s why our core team has barely changed, our content maintains the same editorial direction, and our focus continues to be you, dear reader, and the wonderful people in our sapphic community. Not everything has stayed the same — we shifted subscription systems about a zillion times and, tragically, the last of the Delivery D***s went extinct, leaving our dirty work to the United States Postal Service. Changes happen when projects grow.
I would like to highlight an incredibly positive change that the last year has brought to The Sapphic Sun: When we started, our team stood mostly alone. Now, we are connected with LGBTQ+ media organizations, q***r event organizers, mutual aid groups, other newspapers and dozens of other categories that make up our community. At the most fundamental level, community is built on individual connections. Everyone who has contributed to the paper by writing, designing, being interviewed or even by subscribing has made a connection with each of our readers.
This October, our theme is one word: webs. Okay, yes, this decision is not just because of the community messaging, it’s also because it’s Halloween and spiders are spooky. But we truly believe that it is through your support that we can be that eight-legged friend who weaves together connecting threads with her silken spinneret. Each story brings another fly to the web, providing sustenance for… well, this metaphor seems to be getting away from me.
Arachnosimiles aside, webs are our theme. In this issue, you will find spotlights on community contributors who give le****ns and other sapphics a space to connect with one another. We extend our most emphatic thanks to each individual who has helped us form our web.
Thank you for the last year; here’s looking forward to the next one.
Sincerely,
The Sapphic Sun
