Snow is expected to start falling across Kansas throughout the overnight hours, and continue through most of tomorrow morning. Below, I will attach a photo that shows the projected snow accumulation! Light green areas are expected to receive over 1” of snow and dark green is expected to receive over 2”.

Tonight has the potential to yield more vibrant colors this evening. Predictions have shown that the geomagnetic storm is likely to increase from G4 to G5 today. This graphic gives you an idea of the science that makes the auroras happen!

10/17/25: Thunderstorms are expected to develop overnight into the early morning. Expect some gusty winds and small hail in some areas. Most storms should develop to the east of I-135 towards places like Emporia. Tomorrow has the potential of a severe weather outbreak, but will likely be focused around northern Arkansas and southern Missouri. As always, keep your eyes on the sky and stay safe!

10-6-25: The EF-5 tornado drought has ended! On June 20, 2025, a large tornado touched down near Enderlin, ND, and proceeded to cause extensive damage. This included full grain bins being picked up and thrown, as well as a tanker car that was flung nearly 500ft. 210mph winds also managed to debark trees while the tornado was on the ground.

This is the first EF-5 to be confirmed by the NWS since Moore, OK, in 2013.

Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect for most of western, central, and southern Kansas! Multiple strong thunderstorms are moving east/northeast across the state. Additionally, there is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning in effect for Scott City in western Kansas. 2” hail is radar indicated. Areal flood watch is still in effect for most of the state until 10pm CDT Tuesday. Keep your eyes on the sky and stay safe!

The predictive models are showing waves of heavy rain across the state tonight through tomorrow afternoon. Localized flooding is expected, and an Areal Flood Watch is in effect from now until 10pm CST Tuesday. The areas included in the watch will be attached below. 50-60mph winds are expected with a chance of hail at about 1”-1.5”. Remember, don’t drive into flooded roadways. Turn around, don’t drown. Keep your eyes on the sky and stay safe!

Flash flooding is now a concern with these storms. Heavy rain mixed with the slow-moving nature of the storm will lead to some dangerous conditions. If you see water flowing over the road, turn around, don’t drown. Stay safe and keep you eyes on the sky!
