๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฅ๐ญ: a quality publication th
at echos the voice of the neighborhood and reflects the community itself. Throughout the nation, communities who receive an N2 publication find that they know more about their neighbors and feel connected to them in ways that are meaningful and life-changing. We personally work closely with the residents of the HWY 68 Corridor and River Road community to help develop the monthly newsletter called ๐๐ง ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐๐ ๐๐ณ๐ข๐ง๐. Working closely with residents and sponsors that advertise in the newsletter. I coordinate photoshoots, write articles, meet with local business owners to offer them the opportunity to promote themselves in the newsletter and I meet the residents to develop the content. I occasionally design the ads for the newsletter if needed and oversee the overall content of the newsletter.

This month we're honored to share our friend, Bruce Pittenger's story and talk about his airplane maintenance company. Read on to learn more about this cool cat, and Advancetech Aircraft Maintenance.
How did you get into the Aircraft repair and Maintenance?
My father was a Navy chief, and I grew up watching him restore airplanes and cars. He always had a project he was working during his off time in the garage. He took me to airports where he worked on small private airplanes and was also an avid pilot. Our family moved to Toro Park from the SF bay area in 1972 as my father took a job at the Monterey Peninsula Airport setting up a maintenance shop for Monarch aviation. When I graduated from Salinas High in 1975, I took a job with him at the airport fueling airplanes and gradually moved into the shop where I began my training dismantling and restoring radial engines for overhaul, when the engines were completed, I would run them in on the test bed. I did not know it at the time, but it was the beginning of my career in the aviation field which has proven to be a great living for my family here in the Salinas Valley. In 1979 My father opened shop at the Salinas Airport, and I joined him in 1980. I have been at the Salinas airport ever since. In 1991 my father semi-retired, and I took the reins which has now been my living for the last 40 years. Since then, I have attended many trades related schools for the type of airplanes Advancetech maintains. I did not expect this to be my career as I wanted to be a professional musician, but life has a funny way of getting in the way of our dreams!
Tell us about your team.
I have a knowledgeable and experienced crew of airframe and powerplant mechanics. I have six long time employees and just added three new team members, who obtained their FAA mechanic license certifications from the aeronautical program at Gavilan College in San Martin. I consider Advancetech not only a business for profit but also, an investment of knowledge in my employeeโs futures and the future of aviation at the Salinas Airport. It would bring me immense joy knowing my fatherโs investment in me, could be continued and to carry our family legacy into the future. We are very thankful to our customers and the community who help to make this happen for us!
Who are your main clients?
Our client base is widespread. Advancetech has customers flying into Salinas from all over the USA. We have a substantial base right here from the Salinas Valley, Monterey Peninsula, Watsonville and Hollister areas, along with the SF Bay and LA basin. We partner with MPI Jet Charter operating out of Monterey and direct their maintenance, and have many in the produce industry, and private corporate and general aviation clients.
What is the most rewarding or interesting part of your work?
Tackling the tough jobs and bringing difficult nuisance airplane system problems to a conclusion for our clients. Our clients are grateful when we analyze and repair a complex system issue in a timely and economical fashion. We perform routine inspections year-round, however the proof is in the pudding when we resolve complex system repair issues. We take pride in our abilities and work we perform! I have built personal relationships with my clientele and have gained so many friendships over the years!
Whatโs new and exciting in your industry?
Aircraft systems and construction have advanced considerably since I came to this industry. Pilots used to fly airplanes, now the airplanes fly the pilots! Silicon Valley has transformed the way aircraft systems are implemented and designed. Advancing with these changes is exciting, especially for young mechanics coming into this field. In 1980 I was working on piston powered airplanes, now it is all regional and global jets and turboprops in the corporate sector. We are still working on the older technology and enjoy doing so!
How has Covid changed your way of doing business.
Aside from Covid protocols, the aviation repair industry was considered essential. We were able to continue our work with protocols in place and, in fact, Advancetech got busier as the airlines ceased operations, and the demand for private and charter aircraft transportation increased, increasing the need for scheduled maintenance.
What are your favorite aspects about living here and what do you like to do in your spare time?
Coming to this valley from the Bay Area as a teen was a bit of a culture shock. But as I made friends, I came to know all that this valley and peninsula had to offer. I grew to love it here. I am married to my beautiful, loving wife Jennifer. We like to travel at least once a year. I enjoy a round of golf now and then and am living my dream as a semi-professional musician with a group known as Retreuxspect! I enjoy spending time with my two daughters and four stepchildren and my dog Remy. I collect vintage guitars and enjoy anything art. I stay healthy with exercise and hiking and love the coastline.
