Michael David MacMillan was born on June 25, 1947 and finished his race February 15, 2024. He was born to Howard & Gene Spiering, and adopted at the age of five by his step-dad Bill MacMillan. He leaves behind his sister Karen and brother Pete, and was superseded in death by his parents and sister Donna.

In 1966 he graduated high school and joined the United States Air force where he served in Vietnam, Korea and Guam as a radar/ communication technician, airplane mechanic, and auto mechanic. He served for 20 years before retiring.

He met the love of his life Joyce Morgan while on a blind date with her best friend and was smitten. They were married 56 years and they had three amazing daughters. He leaves behind his wife, Joyce MacMillan, his daughters, Karla Holley and her husband Brett, Colleen King and her husband James, and Christine Rodriguez and her husband Rodney, along with 9 grandkids and 5 1/2 great grandkids.

He served his Heavenly Father faithfully through ministry as a Senior Pastor for 3 years, prison chaplain, Royal Rangers commander, director of the South Texas sectional store, and a member of the FCF. He started a home church while stationed in the Azores, and served 3 years at Teen Challenge.

Mike was a quiet giant who spoke few words but made a huge impact in every life he touched from his family, to his church, and to the strangers he encountered. He was a man of integrity, honesty, and valor.

He was an avid woodworker who enjoyed camping, shooting, hunting, and other outdoor activities.

He was loved beyond measure and has left behind a legacy he was very proud of. He was a father to the fatherless, and built a strong foundation. His house will stand. He was a legend, and the quiet void he left behind is a loud testament to the husband, father, grandfather, and man of God he was.

To celebrate his life, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to Royal Rangers, a ministry that was very dear to his heart. Please use the link below.

Equipping the next generation of boys and young men involves preparing them for leadership. In Royal Rangers, the process of preparing boys for leadership and engaging them in leadership roles today is an integral part of what we do. The process of training junior leaders currently takes place both within the local outpost as well as at the district level. Both play a vital role in leadership development in Royal Rangers. We have the ablilty and the tools to make a difference.

Are you paying attention?
The world we knew has changed. Two years ago we were presented with a challenge none of us expected and all of us were unprepared for.
Much has been made of the "Value of Royal Rangers" but today with all that has and is continuing to happen in our lives, i would re-term that statement to read "The Need for Royal Rangers". I will still argue there is great value in the Royal Rangers ministry. But the need for it today is greater now more than ever.
Why do we need Rangers? A major reason is physical personal relationships. Being together with a group of like minded individuals to share experiences together at church or in the field, we were designed for relationship!
I love technology, gadgets and the occasional video game. I want to understand the world i live in.
As Royal Rangers leaders we must be aware of the reality of the world the boys we minister to. So i will spend the effort to know what is going on around me but not at the expense of personal contact with people.
Our world is becoming increasingly interconnected through various forms of electronic media. We have normalized becoming an avatar and inserting ourselves into a digital world.
Movies like Ready Player 1, and Free Guy idealize being in this virtual world.
People connect on social media, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, then spend too much time watching TicTock videos all for likes, comments or a 😃.
Why? Looking for that dopamine hit. And it is powerful.
Do we really have 5000 friends or a list of casual connections?
Amazingly, the term Zoom Fatigue has entered our vernacular. it is a very real thing caused by a very impersonal platform.
Then there is the world of video gaming and Virtual Reality. We can be anyone we want to be, do ANYTHING we want. Good or bad. Because there are no consequences, right? Its not real, right?
Then Facebook becomes Meta. Theh want to create a world where we no longer have to be who we are but anything we want to be. You don't have to leave home. You dont have to physically engage another human.
The Metaverse awaits. Interestingly enough though, the word Meta in Hebrew translates to "is dead". Ponder on that for a moment.
Our boys are being conditioned to believe this is the new normal. But it is not. Normal is physical contact, human interaction. Young men need an affirming pat on the shoulder for a job well done not a review or a smiley face.
Jesus gave us our marching orders before he left:
Go into all the world and make disciples.
Not the Metaverse or VR world, the real world. Where real people are.
If we follow Jesus example then we eat together. Camp together. Go boating together. Pick fruit, walk, sit by a campfire, together. We live life together!
Need a dopamine hit? Build and fly a rocket. Go canoeing. Ride a zipline. Successfully tie a knot or build a bird house. Build friendships that last.
Hug each other when you experience great joy and do the same when you experience great sorrow. These are the things Royal Rangers does.
Boys need relationship now more than ever. Not on a Zoom meeting or facetime but a group of men who will help meet the needs of boys
Our churches NEED Royal Rangers more than ever.
