Yes, I pulled up to a gas station and left with my soul FED šŸ«¶šŸ¾šŸ’„Smack Yo Lips is the newest soul food spot on the Northeast side of San Antonio, and let me tell you… it’s worth every bite!I had the fried fish plate with mac & cheese, collard greens that tasted like grandma made ’em, and sweet yams. But the MVP? The Soul Roll — a crispy roll stuffed with smoked turkey, mac, greens, and sweet potatoes. One bite = full flavor explosion! šŸ”„Pull up, support local, and let your tastebuds thank you later!

Germany was our final stop—and the perfect ending to a journey we’ll never forget šŸ‡©šŸ‡ŖāœØ

From exploring charming streets to witnessing history up close, this leg of the trip reminded us just how much beauty and truth live side by side when you travel with intention.

One of the most powerful moments was visiting the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. There was a deep, sobering presence there—one that reminded me of what I felt walking the trail of enslaved Africans in Richmond, Virginia. Different histories, but the same quiet weight of lives lost and stories that must be remembered. āœØšŸ•Šļø

But even with the heaviness, there was so much light—especially on our last day when our tour guide surprised my son with mini cakes and the group sang him ā€œHappy Birthdayā€ šŸŽ‚šŸ’›
That small, beautiful gesture gave him a memory he’ll never forget—and filled my mama heart with joy.

To —thank you for leading us through this 9-day journey across France, Switzerland, and Germany. You didn’t just show us Europe—you helped us feel it, remember it, and carry it forward.

And now? My kids are already asking, ā€œWhen are we going to Japan?ā€ šŸ˜…
So clearly, our journey isn’t over… just getting started.

Switzerland, you have my heart šŸ‡ØšŸ‡šŸ’«

Days 5–7 were filled with peace, beauty, and fresh air that felt like therapy. From cruising across Lake Lucerne, standing beneath the powerful Lion Monument, walking across the charming Kapellbrücke, to riding up a Swiss mountain that literally took our breath away—the views were unreal. šŸ”ļøšŸš

We stayed at Meininger Zürich Greencity Hotel, and it was the perfect mix of cozy and cool. The food in Switzerland? A much-needed upgrade from Paris—every bite felt like a warm hug after the chill in the air. šŸ§€šŸ«

I see now why people fall in love with Switzerland. It was peaceful, powerful, and picture-perfect. ✨ If you’ve ever wanted a mix of rest, reflection, and awe—Switzerland is your stop.

We spent 4 unforgettable days in Paris and checked off every major landmark on our list—Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Notre-Dame, the Palace of Versailles, Montmartre, and even a beautiful cruise on the Seine River 🚤

✨Big thanks to EF Tours for curating this journey and to Moxy Hotels for giving us stylish comfort in the heart of the city! šŸ§³šŸ—ŗļø

Now here’s the honest truth: while the views were magical and the history was rich, the food didn’t quite hit like we hoped šŸ˜… But we know Paris has more to offer—so hey Paris Tourism Department let’s make it official. Bring me back for a real foodie episode. Let’s show the world the flavors behind the city of lights! šŸ·šŸ‡«šŸ‡·šŸ“

If you’ve been to Paris, what was your favorite landmark? And if not, which one’s on your bucket list?

Flavors of Travel is taking a little break! āœˆļøšŸŒ

I’m hitting pause to soak up a fun adventure with my daughter and son as we explore the beauty of France, Switzerland, and Germany together. šŸ‡«šŸ‡·šŸ‡ØšŸ‡šŸ‡©šŸ‡Ŗ This is a special time for us to create unforgettable memories, taste new flavors, and embrace the culture up close.

Wishing you all well while I’m away—can’t wait to share the highlights, hidden gems, and mouthwatering moments from our European journey when we return. Until then, bon voyage and see you soon! šŸ’•āœØ

Let’s talk about what the history books didn’t teach.
San Antonio has over 80 documented Green Book sites—safe spaces where Black travelers could eat, rest, and thrive - recently discovered by the San Antonio African American Community Archive and Museum (SAAACAM) .

Join me on a journey to 4 powerful locations that still carry our stories (you can visit them with SAAACAM)

Keep swiping āž”ļø

Downtown San Antonio’s Kress Building may seem like just another storefront today—but back then, it stood as a reminder of segregation.
Black customers couldn’t sit at the lunch counter here—so we made our own spaces.

Today, the Kress Building still stands—but so do the stories of resistance. This building is now owned by SAAACAM and will serve as the 3rd largest African American museum in the country (Opening 2026). Photo credit: San Antonio report and SAAACAM.

1. A hidden gem during segregation, Mamie Rose’s Tea Room was elegance, community, and safe dining for Black women and families.

Though it no longer operates, its location lives on.
It’s a reminder of how Black excellence carved space in even the most exclusive eras. Photo credit: SAAACAM and Google.

2. Located on the East Side, Life Saver Grill served up food and soul. More than a restaurant—it was community.

Gone but not forgotten.

This site, like many others, reflects the joy and struggle of Black entrepreneurship in a segregated city.

āø»

3-4. Black beauty and Black food—two essentials. Lorene’s offered glamour and self-love. Cactus Cafe served up meals with soul.

Though they may look different now, their spirit remains. These stops helped shape the culture that still feeds and inspires us today.

These aren’t just buildings—they’re the stories of our people.
