The normally quiet chambers of the Kendall County Commissioners Court were anything but calm this past session when constitutional and biblical advocate Rick Green took the podium, delivering a fiery testimony that raised eyebrows.
Green, known for his direction of The Patriot Academy and his push to designate it as “Constitution City” an incorporated community inside the County near Comfort, told commissioners that his vision would move forward “with or without county approval.”
“We’ve talked long enough,” Green said firmly, addressing the bench. “By this time next year, my Constitution City will be up and running….a model of local governance grounded in freedom, accountability, and biblical values. Whether the county wants to support that or not is up to you, but it’s going to happen.”
His comments came during a lengthy meeting that also included discussion on water resources and the county’s participation in the Dark Skies Project, a regional effort to preserve natural night visibility and reduce light pollution.
Green used part of his allotted time to criticize a previous speaker, a local resident who had advocated strongly for expanding the Dark Skies initiative.
“We’ve got people worried about the brightness of porch lights,” Green said, “while ignoring the dimming of liberty across this county. We should be more concerned about overreach than over-lighting.” Green even referred to the local speaker’s presentation as Marxist.
Commissioners remained largely silent, though Judge Stolarycyzk briefly reminded speakers to keep their comments “respectful and issue focused.”
Green concluded his testimony with a call to action, urging citizens to “stand up for their rights at the local level” and promising that Kendall County would be “the proving ground for freedom in Texas.”
Some citizens have whispered concerns about jurisdiction, zoning, a major fi****ms range inside the community, and how exactly a “Constitution City” would operate within county law and how the county would provide fire and police to the stand alone compound.
No formal action was taken by the court on the matter although County Commissioner Chad Carpenter and Rick Green will be speaking alongside each other at a Comfort town hall meeting this week.
Uncertainty remains whether Green will get his Constitution City or not, but one thing appears clear:
Rick Green’s bold declaration ensured his proposed city near Comfort TX, won’t fade away quietly and without a fight.
