I lost a brother. My friend James was an incredible Engineer. He was also a great producer and guitar player. The people who got to know him found all that out pretty quickly.
James and I met at Texas State in a program called The Sound Recording Technology program. Little did we know, this was going to start a 15 year long creative journey that led to us accomplishing some of our biggest hopes and dreams.
During our time in college we spent most of our time recording in Fire station studios. We met Aris Pouncey at this time who was attending Texas state as well and he was a kindred spirit so he joined our team. If the studio was booked up we would find a space and setup our own recording equipment. Nothing could stop us from doing what we wanted to do and recording what we wanted to record. James, Aris and I were a team and we wrote a lot of songs together.
In 2016 after graduating from Texas state James and I started working on building a recording studio in San Antonio. It took us over 3 years to design and build with master mind and our mentor Chet Himes. James and I went through thick and thin building and operating Cibolo Studios. It was not easy at all but we could not have done it without each other.
He was my very good friend and we both grew a lot together. We were brothers. Partnerships are never easy but I think we did the best we could.
I’m thankful I got to spend one last time with him right before he left us. We talked about the future of the business and when the next session was going to be. He was in very good spirits. So until we meet again, James. I love you, brother.
