This Father’s Day, I watched a sermon from Jonathan Cahn called “The Jacob Blessing & How to Find the Blessing of Your Life.” I wasn’t expecting it to hit me as deeply as it did.

One line stood out:
“A blessing has to be spoken. Silence is not a blessing.”

It made me think about how powerful a father’s words—or lack of them—can be. So many carry wounds from what was never said… or live changed because of one moment when a father did speak life over them.

Cahn talks about how Jacob gave his sons intentional blessings, naming out their strengths, their futures, their identity. It reminded me that being a father—or even just being someone who leads, loves, and influences—comes with a responsibility to speak. To call out the good. To affirm. To guide.

If you had a father who did that—what a gift. If you didn’t, you can still be the one who breaks the cycle and becomes that blessing for others.

So today, I’m thinking about the fathers who showed up. And I’m also thinking about the ones who didn’t—but still taught us something.
