Earlier this afternoon a pickup truck parked in front of a business on IH-37 just south of Pleasanton. After a few moments the driver got out and urinated in the parking lot then sat back in his truck for an extended period of time. Eventually an employee of the business went outside to investigate.
The driver, identified as Jaime Garza, age 42 (of Edinburg, Texas) saw the employee, brandished a handgun and chambered a round. The employee quickly retreated and called 911.
When Deputy Joe Mejia arrived, he found Garza still in the truck and showing very obvious signs of intoxication with an open beer next to him.
Garza told the deputy he was on the way to Kerrville to volunteer, but refused to step out of his truck.
It was right about then that a short scuffle occurred as Deputy Mejia removed Garza from his vehicle and placed him under arrest for Public Intoxication, Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon and Resisting Arrest.
No one was injured in this incident and further charges may be filed.
Garza, who has a history of alcohol related arrests, was transported to the Atascosa County Jail and booked without further incident.
