✨ I’m a Disney lover through and through, Goofy is my favorite, Mickey is second. Pocahontas, Aladdin and Mulan in that order.

3.5/4✨ I read the book & listened to the audio for this one. Overall this book was entertaining. Some lines were also good zingers !! Swipe to see 😗😬

The main premise was supposed to revolve around academia. Honestly, it was more royal family causing havoc, with a secret band of magicians wielding tarot cards trying to defeat them. Most of the story happens in locations other than the school rooms, and we don’t really experience much of that setting. Don’t get me wrong the intrigue was good & the plot didn’t really have holes. I genuinely was curious to figure out what happened to Clara’s mom & sister. I didn’t expect the little truth bomb & I failed at guessing what happened to her family. The magical system with the Tarot Cards was different & creative.
I struggled with the big time jumps & gaps. The Trials left me wanting more, I kept expecting a showdown.
- Prince Kaelis was the dark, brooding, surprise hero I didn’t expect. Depicted as a villain-the result of a tyrant father & evil brother. I actually felt bad for him when he was being embraced by Clara & she wondered how long it had been since someone touched him or showed him affection.
- Clara was irritating at times with her closed off mindset. She seemed oblivious & naive in how difficult things would be. I appreciate that she was strong willed, had a forceful character & personality, but then it came off in the wrong way, sometimes even selfish when it came to Kaelis.

Review: Mateo “Sly” and Abuela Ximena had me so in love. Their relationship and amazing family values echoed my own. It was refreshing seeing a Texan Latino Family at the forefront. When they manage to get in back stage and Abuela starts playing match maker to the NFL quarterback and the rock pop princess I knew they were in trouble. It was a slow build and emotionally rocking, seeing them both over come obstacles and their own traumas. I was cheering for them HARD when Sly was showing all the green flags & learning how Sloane was so strong despite everything. I loved this book and it was a good end of summer Segway into the fall. Thank you to and for the opportunity to ARC read this wonderful book 🥹❤️
