Somewhere along the way, protein stopped being a nutrient and became a personality trait.
The latest national headline on America’s protein obsession gets at something I hear constantly: women chasing huge protein targets, adding powders to everything… and then wondering why they feel bloated, tired, or overwhelmed.
What I love about this piece is the nuance — especially Dr. Michael Ednie’s reminder that there’s a big difference between whole-food protein and highly processed protein products. Most healthy adults are already meeting their needs through normal eating, and the push to overconsume can actually make digestion, energy, and overall metabolic health worse.
His message is simple:
✔️ Prioritize real food
✔️ Balance protein with fiber and movement
✔️ You don’t need extreme numbers to be healthy
A little sanity in a very loud wellness space.
