Last month, we gathered at San Diego for a special screening of IN OUR NATURE, exploring the power of nature-based education to bridge divides, foster resilience, and reconnect us to one another.

What made the evening memorable was the people in the room. Educators, nonprofit leaders, conservationists, students, friends, and family all showing up with curiosity, openness, and a shared belief in the power of nature connectedness.

Grateful to for hosting, to the Synchronous Pictures team who brought the event to life, to our local partners who shared their work, and to everyone who spent the evening with us.

Vinyl DJ, community reception, and a room full of people coming together around film, connection, and the future we’re building for the next generation - and the ones that follow.

Featuring remarks from CNN Hero of the Year Quilen Blackwell, Southside Blooms Co-Founder Hannah Bonham-Blackwell, director James Parker, and local organizations across San Diego - including The Nat, Tree San Diego, Ocean Connectors, San Diego 350, and the San Diego Environmental Film Festival.

Last week was an awesome reminder of the role independent films can play - stories that may never break box office records, but have the power to bring people, organizations, and ideas into the same room and seed new thinking.

"In Our Nature" made it's East Coast debut at the Miracle Theatre in Washington, DC on Feb 19.. and it was epic! It felt right to share the film in the nation’s capital with a room of educators, veterans’ advocates, nonprofit leaders, early-childhood experts, retired military leaders, influencers, family, and friends who care deeply about this work. To some, an unlikely crowd for a environmental doc. Which is exactly the point.

"In Our Nature" started with a simple question: What happens if we continue toward more screen time and less time outside? And what might change if more young people felt connected to nature - and to each other?

Judy Braus, Anna Rathmann, and Juli Hedrick offered powerful opening remarks, and our panel with Sheila Williams Ridge, Sydney Gary, and Jason Stout sparked thoughtful discussion. I was especially struck by Jason’s words: “Nature is home - and we have a lot of homesick people.”

Grateful to NAAEE, TAPS, The Jane Goodall Institute, and everyone who showed up. And especially to Bob & Suzi Given of the Elizabeth G. Maughan Foundation and our Seed&Spark supporters for making the evening possible.

This Thursday, "In Our Nature" makes its San Diego debut at the Star Theater as part of the Oceanside Intl Film Festival 🎞️

Environmental shorts begin at 6:20pm, followed by the feature presentation at 8:20pm. We're excited to finally share this film with our hometown community, and grateful for 4 nominations at the Oceanside International Film Festival, including:

In a moment when it’s easy to feel divided, "In Our Nature" asks a practical question: what role can nature and environmental education play in helping us reconnect - to place, to learning, and to each other?

Beyond excited to share that "In Our Nature" has been selected to screen at this year!

This film exists because of the educators, community leaders, and families who opened their lives to us - from the community in Chicago, to forest school parents and students in Kentucky at , to military families in San Antonio at .

I was lucky to direct and co-produce this alongside the incredibly talented Juliet Grable.

We’re endlessly grateful to Quilen & Hannah Blackwell, Dr. Ellen Prusinski, Tina Brouwer, Jason Stout, Richard Louv, Mary Ford, Griff Griffith, Jaime González, and Sheila Williams Ridge for trusting us with your stories and sharing your light.

A huge thank you to our small but mighty crew — , , , , , , , , .dudko , , and Jeff Rosa — who gave this film their heart and talent.
