Kano 2023: Appeal Court CTC Judgment Affirmed Yusuf Won – Kano State, Attorney General | NaijaSquare TV

A Certified True Copy of the Court of Appeal judgment on the Kano State governorship election has affirmed the victory of Kabiru Yusuf as the duly elected governor of Kano State.

The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isa-Dederi, made the disclosure on Tuesday.

The AG, who spoke with newsmen in Kano, said in the fresh revelation as contained in the written judgment, the Court of Appeal set aside the judgment of the Kano State Elections Petitions Tribunal for lacking in merit.

“The evidence contained in page 67 of the the copy of the Appeal Court judgment released on Tuesday and signed by Registrar Jameel Ibrahim Umar, the appellate court upheld the victory of Abba Kabiru Yusuf of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) as duly elected Governor of Kano state,” Isa-Dederi said.

Get Ready To Pay Tax On Your Properties - Wike | NaijaSquare TV

Property owners in Abuja should get ready to start paying taxes on their properties as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved a draft property tax regulation for the city.

It was gathered that the FCT-Internal Revenue Service had commenced the implementation of Capital Gains Tax in Abuja, as stipulated in the Capital Gains Tax Act 2004.
The CGT imposes a tax of 10 percent on the total amount of chargeable gains (after making allowable deductions from the computation of such gains) accruing to any person on the disposal of chargeable assets in a year of assessment.

The Executive Chairman, FCT-IRS, Haruna Abdullahi, who disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Sunday, also stated that the capital city’s revenue service had been able to grow its Internally Generated Revenue to about N140bn.

BREAKING: Rivers Assembly Set Ablaze Over Alleged Move To Impeach Gov Fubara | NaijaSquare TV

The Rivers State House of Assembly (RSHA) was last night October 29 set ablaze by suspected political thugs over the alleged move to impeach the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara and Leader of the House, Edison Ehie.

Some thugs in a white Hilux van invaded the assembly complex at about 9pm, disarmed the security personnel on duty and allegedly carried out the act.

It was learnt that the incident occurred at the assembly complex, opposite the Headquarters of the State Command Police, on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

It is alleged that the lawmakers had concluded plans to impeach Fubara and Ehie today October 30 at it resumed sitting following some undisclosed issues.

Over 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) with over 50 federal security personnel have been stationed at the facility. There are rumors that there is a rift between the governor and his predecessor Nyesom Wike, who is now FCT Minister.

FG Moves To Digitise FX Transactions To Punish Naira Speculators | NaijaSquare TV

In the near future, the federal government will automate transactions in the entire foreign exchange market to tame wide arbitrage and punish naira speculators.

Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and coordinating minister of the Economy, mentioned this during the first-panel session at the 29th Nigeria Economic Summit ( ).

His comment came shortly after President Tinubu had told summiteers that he has taken steps to deal with liquidity in the fx market and made a commitment to sort out all backlog.

According to him, all dealings in the fx market, from the official to the money changers where huge arbitrage has consistently occurred, will be thoroughly monitored and offenders fished out and punished.

He also disclosed that the president signed two executive orders last week.

One of them is an executive order that allows forbearance for all the cash in the economy to come in and formally boost the money supply legally.

There’s another executive order that allows domestic issuance of foreign currency issues so that it will allow incentive to provide that foreign exchange for whatever source.

“Foreign exchange market will simplified and reformed such that all legal and legitimate transactions will fall within the purview of the authorities and in the formal foreign exchange market. Anything outside that will be illegal, a criminal offence and will be punished,” Edun stated.

FEC approves drafting of new policy to regulate solid minerals sector | NaijaSquare TV

The Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has permitted the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development to unveil a new draft policy that would drive the operations of the solid minerals sector.

Minister for Solid Mineral Development Dele Alake, who disclosed the information on Monday, said the approval for a review of the policy became necessary because, in a couple of years, resources derived from oil would go extinct, leaving the country in dire straits.

He underscored the relevance of solid minerals as critical to the economic survival of Nigeria, considering the volatility and uncertainties in the global oil market.

Alake, who briefed State House correspondents on the memo presented before FEC, noted that the clamour for climate change and green energy solutions, among other emerging innovations, all combine to reduce the value of oil in the international market.

Alake’s words: “Of course, oil is still sold. However, the trend is going down. So if we are not careful, if we do not make conscious efforts to diversify, in a couple of years, Nigeria will find itself in economic dire straits and if we have an abundance of solid mineral resources, why shouldn’t we diversify, concentrate, exploit judiciously, proficiently, and efficiently, these God-given abundance resources.

“This in essence, encapsulates the policy decision that the Federal Executive Council approved today. It’s a draft policy on the entire solid mineral sector, covering the gamut of oil activities, operations, guidelines, regulatory framework, handling, sourcing, mining, everything that has to do with all the dynamics in the sector. This policy approval today that we got from the Federal Executive Council now gives us in the ministry, the teeth that we wanted to be able to act with precision on all of those things that we have marked up.

Igbo Migrated From Ife — Ooni of Ife | NaijaSquare TV

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has challenged academia in Nigerian universities to properly document the history of Yoruba race rather than relying on jaundiced history.

He said proper documentation will not only foster unity but reveal the ties across ethnic groups, saying evidence showed that the Igbo race migrated from Ile-Ife.

The monarch put the challenge before the academia while addressing journalists ahead of an International Conference on ‘Ile-Ife and Yoruba Civilization: Nexus between Tradition and Modernity’, at his palace in Ife.

He said Yoruba race has about a quarter of its history documented, hence, the reason he is collaborating with select universities on the need to properly document the history of the race with a view to enhancing cohesion among the people globally.

“We have good evidence to believe that Igbo race has its roots here in Ile-Ife. There is Ile-Igbo here in the palace which was not a recent creation but has been existing here for decades. For this and many other reasons, I believe we need proper documentation of our history,” the Ooni said.
