Jaded Ibis Press

Jaded Ibis Press We are a feminist press committed to publishing engaged literature emphasizing marginalized voices. We can’t wait to read your work!

We are a feminist press committed to publishing socially engaged literature with an emphasis on the voices of people of color, people with disabilities, and other historically silenced and culturally marginalized voices. We are looking for writing with no holds barred: visceral, subtle, loud, honest, confounding prose that tackles a personal or universal truth and that makes us see the world aroun

d us more clearly or from a different perspective. Whether the manuscript deals with themes related to social justice, persecution, feminism, or reveals something about what it’s like to struggle through this world, with all the related losses and triumphs and unanswered questions that entails, we want to read it! Our past publications explore these themes with an additional focus on intersectionality. We are open to nonfiction and fiction submissions, short stories, and long-form prose. Above all, we are interested in superb writing that allows readers to question their place in the world and the nature of humanity at large. 🌩️ Inspired by the recent success of Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein, we have decided to run a limited time sale on Unwieldy Creatures by Addie Tsai. Our sale will run until the last dreary night of November. Be sure to purchase your copy for only $13 before this shocking promotion ends!

“Addie Tsai’s novel Unwieldy Creatures is a q***r, contemporary retelling of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein set in Indonesia and the American South. The novel explores the transgressive nature of existing as a q***r body, an “unwieldy creature,” in a society whose obsession with bodily perfection and beauty serves as a tool for reinforcing heteronormative standards of behavior. Shelley’s Victor Frankenstein becomes Tsai’s Dr. Frank, a q***r biracial woman whose dysfunctional experiences of parental affection at home lead her into becoming obsessed with creating the perfect creature birthed from the bodies of two same-s*x partners: herself and her female lover named Hana. What starts out as a q***r scientist’s striving to birth a creature that is perfect to behold—which Dr. Frank envisions as a means for her and Hana to gain acceptance in a world that rejects q***r bodies like their own—results in tragedy. Hana gives birth to an ugly giant that Dr. Frank finds herself incapable of loving, upending Dr. Frank’s mission of creating a being out of her own unwieldy body that she can love as her own.” -Electric Lit.

✨Giveaway for Little Deaths All in a Row by Elizabeth Earley

✨We’re giving away two copies of Elizabeth Earley’s latest novel!

✨ Little Deaths All in a Essays on S*x and Death, is a personal, philosophical, and scientific journey. While at first glance s*x and death may seem diametrically opposed, in these essays Earley uses her intimate encounters to illustrate the ways in which they are unexpectedly and inextricably linked. Using her personal experiences as a q***r mother, a volunteer hospice caretaker, and a scientist as a multi-faceted lens through which to view these topics, she offers readers new ways to think about what it means to be alive, even in the face of death.

✨ Debut novelist Chelsea Laine Wells delivers a raw and heartfelt coming-of-age story, with an impactful narrative driven by rebellion and personal growth. Themes of deteriorating family relationships, mental health, and addiction collide and shatter against each other, creating something of delicate beauty in the process, much like the art of kintsugi.

✨”How You Come Back is a live wire of a novel, beautiful and sparking, keeping you emotionally on your toes. I fell in love with the characters, wounds and scabs and all, and would follow them to the end of the earth. Chelsea Laine Wells is, truly, a one-in-a-million talent.”
