"The biggest chokehold on any company's growth is the psychology and skills of its founder or leader. If the founder has limits in their own mind about what they can or cannot achieve, those limits become the ceiling for the entire business."

This quote haunts me, because looking back at my career, I know it's true.

There are times when I could have gone much bigger, much faster, with a more elevated mindset.

Which is why I'm doing everything I can to pounce on AI now while it's still early.

This is the cheapest leverage in the history of business. $100/month buys you the equivalent of several bright, tireless team members. Working 24/7. Getting measurably smarter every month.

But I am still running into business owners who hesitate on this daily.

Here's the hard truth: If you can't afford $100/month for AI, the problem isn't the price. It's the mindset.

Every month you don't move, the gap compounds.

It's always a pleasure to celebrate and support the San Diego Museum of Art's biggest fundraiser of the year: Art Alive and Bloom Bash.

Funding for the arts in San Diego is at risk of getting slashed to nearly zero by Mayor Todd Gloria in the next budget — which I believe is a huge mistake for our community.

A city without art isn't really a city. It's just a place people happen to live.

"I see little of more importance to the future of our country and of civilization than full recognition of the place of the artist." — John F. Kennedy

Played in my first pickleball tournament last weekend - representing local startups spring water and , the app for the pickleball community, with local media personalities here in San Diego.

It’s incredible to see the enthusiasm for this game and these types of events that bridge a sports event with a party. The fastest growing sport in America, with 311% growth over the last three years.

It’s all about community, which I think will be the foundation of just about every successful non-Ai business in the years ahead.

Had a great time, but I need to work on my pickleball skills (a$$ thoroughly kicked)!

I think this is one of the most important questions we should all be asking ourselves right now.

The world is shifting faster than ever before — economically, technologically, culturally. The way things were is not necessarily how they'll stay. And yet, most of us continue to operate under assumptions rooted in an outdated reality.

We make decisions — about our careers, businesses, relationships, and identities — based on rules that may no longer apply.

So the real leverage is in updating our assumptions before reality forces us to.

Ask yourself:

What beliefs am I holding onto that no longer serve me?

What strategies am I using that were built for a different era?

Where am I playing it safe out of habit — not alignment?

What would I do differently if I weren’t afraid to let go of the old map?

Now’s the time to question more deeply — because the future belongs to those willing to unlearn just as much as they learn.

One of the cool perks of running ThereSanDiego is getting to meet interesting people...in this case, a private interview and class with Chef Nobu.

He has an amazing story, and his energy and passion for what he's doing is inspiring.

Even in his mid-70's, he's globetrotting and opening new hotels, restaurants and other ventures at a pace that would make most people half his age beg for mercy!

He just opened a second Nobu in San Diego, this one in Coronado. Can't wait to go feast!

How do you pick a niche?
What should you major in?
What should you do after college?

I think the answer is the same for all of these questions.

Find what you love and let it kill you.

The future is more unknown now than ever. Ai is going to change our lives how exactly? Will there still be jobs? What skills and knowledge will matter?

Nobody has the answers.

So in my mind, the only thing that makes sense is to pursue something that you love so much that you're willing to pay the price just to keep pursuing it.

I'm convinced that passion will be one of the last things that Ai can copy!

One of the simplest and most memorable plans for self-improvement I've ever read!

This comes from Balaji's outline of his plans for The Network School that he posted on X. I find what he's doing incredibly inspiring and something every entrepreneur should consider.

I look forward to seeing more educational models like this soon!

Words of wisdom from Ben Franklin.

One of my personal goals has always been to keep moving forward at any age - learning, growing, and experiencing new things.

I can remember hearing multiple times in my life that most people consider their senior year of high school to have been their 'peak'...how f'ing horrifying!!!

There is way too much life to live to stop moving forward and changing things up as you go!

Wear out > rust away!

I love this quote - thanks to for sharing this in your always excellent newsletter.

Your life is your story, and you are the author.

This quote hit me at just the right time, as I'm doing my 'Mountaintop Planning' where I visualize a future that excites me and inspires me, then set goals to work towards it.

Reading it prompted some questions:

How do I want my story to go?
What kind of character do I want to be?
What story-worthy things will I do?

All powerful questions to create a vision for the future!

LET'S GOOOOO!!!

It's been a damn fun month combining business with pleasure...as it should be!

ThereSanDiego's Local Bar at Bloom Bash at the San Diego Museum of Art...

Tasting the best tequila in the world at The Goodjuice Festival...

A private dinner we hosted at insideOUT, the most fascinating restaurant in San Diego...

And celebrating 150 years of 'The Nat' in San Diego's Balboa Park.

All of it promoting and supporting brands, people, and institutions we love and that have become customers and/or business partners as well.

Not a bad stretch...let's keep it going!
