For many of you, today marks the first day of school for the young humans you are responsible for raising. It's a mix of emotion, I'm sure. Part of you can't believe Preston is heading into his senior year, while the other part is giving thanks that he actually made it this far. Some of you are high-fiving because your morning run went from 3 different schools to drop off at 2. It's the giddy excitement of a fresh year and new opportunities.....that by Thursday will feel like it will never end, you'll never find anything in the bottom of the backpack and you're already dreading the cacophony of sounds that will pour out from the holiday recital when the 5th grade class learns to pay the recorder.
All this sounds like you could use a big glass of delicious sangria. I know I could, and I don't even have kids! Just the shear thought of what all you parent-types go through in a year makes me itchy. I may not have been blessed with kiddos but I have certainly been blessed for anything Sangria-related.
As we start to close the door on Summer of 2017, what better Sangria recipe to share than Sunset Sangria. Make it ahead of time so it is ripe and ready by Friday night! After the first week of school, believe me girl, you'll need it!
Join me around the table - cheers!
Sunset Sangria
Ingredients
3/4 a pound of strawberries, hulled and sliced
3 medium navel oranges, sliced (ends sliced off and discarded)
1/2 cup citrus rum
2 oz orange liquor
3/4 a 1.5L bottle of Moscoto (I use Barefoot brand)
{or, better yet, buy three 750 ml bottles and make two batches!}
lemon-lime soda (diet or regular)
Instructions
Mix the wine, rum, and orange liquor. Add the strawberries and oranges. Top with a little more wine to make sure the fruit is all covered with liquid. Cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight.
Pour through a strainer into glasses (though you probably won't care about the pulp once you get to the second pitcher), and add fruit. Top with soda. Enjoy!!

This Sunset Sangria is made with orange, strawberry, rum and will quickly become a favorite!
