Gideon Muriuki, CEO of Co-operative Bank, earned a total of Ksh475 million last year, Ksh172.5 million in salary and Ksh302.3 million in performance bonuses, cementing his position as Kenya’s highest-paid executive.
His monthly pay averaged Ksh14.4 million, or roughly Ksh59,896 per hour, nearly Ksh1,000 per minute.
The payout came as Co-op Bank reported a 9.8% jump in net profit to Ksh25.5 billion. The lender declared a Ksh8.8 billion dividend, with Ksh5.7 billion going to Co-op Holdings, the umbrella body for Kenya’s co-operative movement. Muriuki himself received Ksh160 million from his 2% stake in the bank.
