Sekon! I’m Lauren J. Mapp, a co-founder at Daylight San Diego reporting on arts and culture, social justice and Indigenous communities.
Since launching Daylight, I’ve covered how Indigenous Cal State San Marcos students and faculty built a supportive campus community, where a shadowcast brings the cult classic “Rocky Horror” to a new generation of fans, and why third spaces are important for connecting with new people and where to find them throughout the region.
This summer, I’ve been doing a deep dive into the current status of Black maternal and infant health, researching whether our county government is supporting people who give birth and their babies to have more equitable health outcomes. Make sure to check out my findings next month.
Regardless of what topic Daylight covers, one thing is always certain: We’re here to bring to light stories from everyday San Diegans who don’t usually see themselves represented in local news.
That’s why I’m asking you to join our summer membership campaign to help us raise $10,000 by Aug. 12. Whether you become a paid member at 10, 25 or $50 a month, or make a one-time donation, your support means we can continue following the stories that matter to you!
Head to daylightsandiego.org to become a member or make a donation today. And thank you so much to everyone who has already shown your support this summer! Niawen:kowa!
