Hola my local Cali peeps, as you might have seen the WCDIA is hosting a fun day of golf at MCAS Miramar. The R. Lee Ermey "Full Metal Jacket" Golf Classic on the 24th of AUG. Yes, the day will be fun, and not as pro as some of you would like, but the reason is very serious. Yes we always raise and support those in need, but on the table now is a family we've committed to assisting and could use your help. A tragic and heartfelt story. But... No s**t.. put yourself in their shoes.. this could be any one of us(God Forbid) in the blink of an eye. Don't let your golf ego, pride, of the opportunity go by the wayside to assist this Marine family.

Put together a team and we hope to see you there.

Drill Instructors,

Some of you already know, but I write to you with sad news, the passing of Sgt Maj (Ret) Robert "Charlie" Colon. He passed away this morning in North Carolina with his family by his side. He had been struggling with cancer for some time, but in true Charlie fashion did not want others to know. In my opinion, one of the true legends of MCRD. During his tours he held many position, Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Chief Drill Instructor, Bn. Drill Master, Regimental Drill Master
DI School Drill Master, and 1st Sgt. He was also a Chief Instructor at the NCO Leadership School. He left his mark on thousands of Marines, including me.

After all of that, the Corps was not done with him, as he eventually went on to finish his career as the 2 MEF SgtMaj in July of 2006. He was relieved by another of our members, SgtMaj Ron Himsworth.

Semper Fidelis, may your after life bring fair winds and following seas. RIP SgtMaj Robert “Charlie”Colon.

What a week.. DI Professional Dinner with class 3-24. Another supporter of our DI’s at the Pro Dinner was Alicia Lopez and her daughter Trinity from The Hunter Lopez Memorial Foundation who blessed me with this superior coin that had their son Hunter’s likeness on it.
Then, DI School Graduation where the WCDIA presents the Larry Darr Leadership Award.
If this wasn’t enough I happen to catch some Drill being done, and the DI Monument at dusk.

Good afternoon Drill Instructors, Spouses, and loyal followers... As most of you know our 38th Reunion is around the corner. The Board works very hard to plan, provide, and execute the Reunion so everyone has a good time. Coordination with the Depot, the BBQ, The Hotel, The Banquet, Duty Hut food and extras, Welcome Packets, Silent Auction Items etc...There is only 58 days left until it begins! I ask kindly PLEASE Register as Early as you possible can so we can have some kind of true numbers of who is attending, whether we have met our contractual obligations with the hotel, order less or more food, and give appropriate numbers to the Depot. This will help us immensely so that we can insure we are planning, and ordering (Spending Funds) efficiently.

We have made all attempts aboard the Depot to secure copies. The truth is, no one keeps file copies for more that 2-3 years and that is not firm.
