Some magazine issues document a moment. Others become part of it.

Twenty-five years after September 11, 2001, we opened an original issue of Revolt In Style and found ourselves staring into a time capsule.

Inside were the words written by our editor, Thaddeus, and art director, Brian Terhorst - immediate, deeply personal reactions shaped by grief, fear, anger and uncertainty while the country was still trying to understand the unthinkable.

These words are imperfect, unfiltered and sometimes uncomfortable. We are sharing them as they originally appeared because history should not always be cleaned up after the fact.

They are a record of who we were, what we feared and how we tried to make sense of a day that divided so many lives into a before and an after.

Twenty-five years later, we found this.

An original copy of the Revolt In Style issue created in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.

Inside are the words our staff wrote while the country was still trying to understand what had happened - including a letter from our editor, Thaddeus, and a deeply personal response from art director Brian S. Terhorst.

For Brian’s family, it was terrifyingly close. His younger sister felt the rumble of the collapse and smelled the fires burning. For several agonizing hours, nobody could reach her.

These were not polished historical reflections. They were immediate, raw and sometimes angry reactions written in a moment of fear and uncertainty.

Twenty-five years later, we are opening the Revolt In Style archives and sharing those original pages.

🏄‍♂️ **FROM THE RSSS TO U.S. OPEN CHAMPION!**

This one is especially cool for us.

Encinitas' **Jake Marshall just claimed the biggest win of his career at the 2026 Lexus U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach** - defeating two-time champion Kanoa Igarashi in a dramatic Final.

Long before Jake was competing against the world's best on the Championship Tour, he was an alum of our own **Revolt Summer Surf Series Pro-Am**.

To see one of the young surfers who came through our contests go on to win one of surfing's most iconic events is pretty damn awesome.

Australia's **Sierra Kerr** also delivered a huge breakthrough, defeating World Junior Champion Isla Huppatz to claim her first U.S. Open and Challenger Series victory.

What a Finals Day in Huntington Beach.
