Montebello police are investigating two separate stabbings that occurred on November 25 and November 26 near Garfield Avenue, ultimately leading to the arrest of a suspect believed to be responsible for both attacks.

According to the Montebello Police Department, the first incident occurred on November 25 at approximately 11:16 a.m., when officers responded to the area of Garfield Avenue and Whittier Boulevard. A caller reported a man lying face down in the roadway with significant bleeding. Responding officers located an elderly male with a stab wound to the chest. The victim was transported to a trauma center with life-threatening injuries. Detectives arrived on scene and began working to identify a suspect.

The following morning, on November 26 at around 8:06 a.m., officers were called back to the area near 500 N. Garfield Avenue for another stabbing. Police say a male victim was attacked without provocation before the suspect fled on foot. Officers quickly established a perimeter and determined that the description and circumstances were similar to the previous day’s attempted homicide.

The victim from the November 26 assault did not sustain life-threatening injuries and is being treated at a local hospital. Detectives say the investigation remains ongoing, but there is currently no known threat to the public.
