🔧 How to Test a Vintage Chevrolet Alternator Regulator Using a Variable DIY Power Supply 🚗⚡
Having charging issues with your classic Chevrolet? Before replacing parts, test your alternator voltage regulator yourself with a simple home-built variable power source! 🛠️
📍 Wiring Setup:
Connect your variable DC power supply (set initially around 13.2V) to the regulator.
Hook up a 12V test bulb in series to monitor the field signal (F terminal).
📊 Step-by-Step Testing Procedure:
1️⃣ Gradual Increase: Slowly turn up the supply voltage towards 14.5V.
2️⃣ Expected Behavior: The regulator should cut off power and turn OFF the test bulb at around 14.4V.
3️⃣ Diagnosis: If the bulb stays ON past 14.8V, the regulator is faulty/bad and needs replacement.
💡 Tip: Always double-check your ground connections before testing!
