KRILL FISHING IS NOW A CRIMINAL ENTERPRIZE
The exceeding of the limit is indicative of the ciminal nature of the actvities of this fishing industry and underlines the necessity for us to intervene.
It's time to act and we are preparing two ships and recruiting two crews to enage the krill fishery at the end of this year.
🚨For the first time ever, Antarctica’s krill fishery has been forced to shut early for the season because industrial supertrawlers blew past the seasonal catch limit.
Krill are the foundation of the Antarctic ecosystem. They feed whales, penguins, and seals, and play a vital role in locking away carbon in the deep ocean.
But a fleet of industrial vessels is hoovering up krill at record rates for products we don’t need, including farmed salmon feed, pet food, and supposed health supplements.
In Antarctica, trawlers are allowed to fish freely for krill even in sensitive wildlife hotspots. One area saw a 60% surge in catch compared to last year.
The result? A tipping point for the Antarctic ecosystem.
🛑 An early closure of the fishery for the season signals a growing problem of overfishing. It’s time to end destructive krill fishing — before it’s too late.
