His cross-genre music features epic progressions, lush sound design, driving rhythms, and innovative melodic lines. Driving rhythms, cinematic melodies, and a vast palette of sonic textures define the music of SUBQUiRE, the latest evolution of Wayne Baker’s lifelong journey with sound. Having played piano since the age of seven, Baker now draws on three decades of musical experience to create musi

c that bridges emotion, experimentation, and thoughtful sound design. Spanning genres like ambient, IDM, glitch-hop, drum & bass, shoegaze, and experimental bass music, SUBQUiRE reflects Baker’s broad influences and passion for exploring sound. “Genres have always been tough for me—I’m influenced by so many types of music,” Baker explains. This openness drives his ability to craft music that resonates deeply with listeners. Wayne Baker’s artistry was first introduced to the world under the name Fidelium. As Fidelium, he gained recognition for his intricate compositions and innovative sound design. Early works like Believe Me This Is Home showcased a melodic IDM style influenced by artists like Boards of Canada and Aphex Twin. Fidelium’s sound expanded with God Tank, featured on the IDMf Netlabel’s Beyond The Silence And Story, and reached new heights with the critically acclaimed Diametry LP, a gapless sonic adventure that highlighted Baker’s skills in sound design and composition. In 2013, Baker revisited his earlier work for I’ll Be Famous When I’m Dead, reimagining tracks from 2003–2007 and releasing them alongside remix stems for collaboration. These releases established Fidelium as an artist willing to experiment and evolve, setting the stage for what would later become SUBQUiRE. As SUBQUiRE, Wayne Baker continues to push his creative boundaries. Recent works like Mute, the introspective World Theories, and the evocative dear city, showcase his ability to blend cinematic storytelling with intricate soundscapes. His upcoming drum & bass track, Webs & Flowers, promises to further explore rhythm and emotion, delivering a dynamic listening experience. Beyond his solo work, Baker is one-half of NOTICE, an EDM/trip-hop duo he co-founded with Quinn Zimmer in New Orleans. NOTICE combines soulful vocals, deep beats, synths, and guitars to create a unique and immersive sound. Wayne Baker’s impact on the electronic music community extends beyond his own releases. As co-founder of the IDMf Netlabel, now Glitch Pulse Records, he helped curate and release over 30 albums, fostering a global community of electronic music producers. His leadership in this role emphasized collaboration and experimentation, values he carries into his current work with Glitch Pulse Records. “I’ve been lucky to work with so many talented people and to learn from every step of the process,” Baker says. For Baker, music isn’t just a career—it’s a way of life. “I’m always in composition mode,” he says. Whether sketching ideas at the piano, experimenting in his studio, or collaborating with other artists, he finds joy in the endless possibilities of sound. SUBQUiRE and NOTICE are more than projects—they’re expressions of a lifelong passion for music’s ability to connect people, spark emotion, and inspire creativity. From his roots as Fidelium to his latest releases as SUBQUiRE, Wayne Baker’s work remains a testament to his dedication to sound and storytelling. Whether crafting ambient soundscapes, bass-heavy grooves, or introspective melodies, he invites listeners to join him on a journey that is as much about connection as it is about music.

I love my BM5A reference monitors. Every song I’ve made and track I’ve mixed has been done with these speakers. 15 years and still work great (even though Lefty needs a paperclip wedged against his tweeter for it to work. 😅 redneck MacGuyver

I post pictures of my desk like some dudes do with their cars. Doing post-production on a documentary that as already made me tear up twice because it is about the matriarch of an American immigrated Latino family and her legacy she left after passing away.

Callisto (or Calypso) is my hard drive. This happened way too fast. So… not great news. One of my moons died tonight. I name my drives after moons because each one holds some chunk of my creative universe. Io, Ganymede, Proteus, Mnemosyne… and Callisto, the big one. The archive moon. The heavy hitter. Callisto/Calypso, my once most trusted HD, is gone....

When you’re a music producer and your studio suffers an electrical power surge, causing external HD drive failure erasing half of your project files from the past few months, and instead of volcanically exploding in anger and choosing violence, you go out to your solarium during golden hour and breathe in the fresh air and sunlight, snap a photo cuz good job buddy that’s a breakthrough. now you get to make it again yayyyy and besides the second version of it will probably sound better anyway. Channeling the feels ain’t easy but just remember nothing is forever and everything will be ok. Only thing we have control over is how we react. Cool now Ready to get back to it? Let’s fkn go. F that hard drive anyway. You got this.

And yes I have a power conditioner. Don’t producersplain me 😜

📼 Tape Loops Live — Tomorrow night, 7pm PT

Every Wednesday I spin a tape (or two) → digitize → loop → mangle → share. Sometimes announced, sometimes a surprise. Tomorrow’s pick is still TBA… sermons, kids’ dramas, field recordings, thrift store oddities — maybe even some tape ghosts 👻

This works best as a community hang, so come through, say hey in chat, and be part of it.

and I at music festival in 2005. I don't really get starstruck, but I was so excited to meet Anthony, and shaking his hand was the highlight of the entire festival for me. This is back when it was just him performing solo. I still have the signed album and poster too after all these years. I had just started producing electronic music and I told him in really broken French: "Je fais de la musique électronique grâce à toi." (I make electronic music thanks to you.) He was very humble and shy about it, so was I. He said, "Bonne chance!" And I'm still making it to this day.

I will never forget the shift that happened in my artistic brain when I listened to "Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts" and how greatly it made me want to create on synthesizers and drum machines. To this day his music still inspires me. So glad I still have this photo buried in the archives!

No social media posts (well ok 1, but just a link!) But no promo vids, spamming you all over this loud internet. I set it all in motion, I told y'all it was coming already... Sometimes I forget to just be the producer and give it away. LET GO OF THE MUSIC WAYNE. Ok phew. Here you go. Thank you to all my friends who listen to me when it matters the most.
