The Monterey County Weekly is hiring! I started working here two and a half months ago. It's a great organization, and highly respected in the community. Plus it's beautiful in this part of the state.

Join SF Bay Area Journalists on Tuesday evening, 4/14, for a FREE advanced screening of "True Story," a film that depicts the extraordinary infamy-to-fame story of disgraced ex-NY Times writer Michael Finkel. SFBAJ has been offered 30 seats (you must reserve to get on the list!). Please arrive before 7 pm to secure your seat. Reserve at link below or at Meetup.com/Journalism

The film stars Jonah Hill as Finkel, who was fired by the Times for creating a composite character in a Sunday magazine article. In a strange twist of fate, Christian Longo, an Oregon man who murdered his wife and three children, used Finkel's identity in an attempt to flee the country. The two men subsequently met, leading Finkel to write a book on Longo's case that led to this movie. The film also features James Franco as Longo and Felicity Jones as Finkel's wife. Directed by Rupert Goold, the film is executive-produced by Brad Pitt and Arnon Milchan.

SF Bay Area Journalists sadly notes the passing of Dori Maynard, whose tireless efforts to promote diversity in newsrooms and coverage provided one of the bright spots in our profession in recent years. We call on all journalists to honor her memory by carrying on her good work.

Dori J. Maynard, a journalist and longtime champion of diversity in news coverage and among the people who report the news, died on Tuesday at her West Oakland home, friends and family said.

Wow. Very excited to announce that SF Bay Area Journalists has been invited to a free preview screening of director Michael Cuesta's film "Kill the Messenger," the true story of SF Bay Area Journalist Gary Webb. Cuesta will be on hand for a discussion. If you were around in the 80s, you may remember Webb's astonishing reports on the connection between the CIA, drug lords and the war in Central America. The screening is for SFBAJ members on Wed, 9/17. If you're not a member, you can sign up through the link below. Hurry...we're limited to 50 seats.

This is Pam Marino posting. A young Bay Area woman who is a good family friend has her first novel coming out next year. Here's her request:
"Is anyone involved with any kind of media/review/etc. outlet that might be interested in reviewing a copy of my novel coming out next year?
The book is called CONVICTION, coming from Disney-Hyperion, and is about a small-town boy shaken to his core when his father is accused of a hate crime."
You can email me at [email protected] if you are interested.
