The film stars Jonah Hill as Finkel, who was fired by the Times for creating a composite character in a Sunday magazine article. In a strange twist of fate, Christian Longo, an Oregon man who murdered his wife and three children, used Finkel's identity in an attempt to flee the country. The two men subsequently met, leading Finkel to write a book on Longo's case that led to this movie. The film also features James Franco as Longo and Felicity Jones as Finkel's wife. Directed by Rupert Goold, the film is executive-produced by Brad Pitt and Arnon Milchan.
