Gilbertism

Gilbertism Some say I'm like a splash of cold water in their face. Advertising, audio/ video production, voice J.S. Some of it is funny. Some of it is controversial.

Gilbert has been writing since before there were electric typewriters. Thoughts spill out of his head like maple syrup at an I Hop. Some of it doesn't make much sense, and some of it makes way too much sense. has also been a stand up comic and is a voice actor, audio video producer and director.

Perhaps I just don't understand Facebook, but it's one thing to have a personal page and invest time and effort into things that a scant few friends will see, but as you all can tell, I have all but lost interest in this "business" page. Reaching 2 or 3% of the people who follow me here seems like a poor use of my social media time.

So, please feel free to follow me on my regular old /jsgilbert page and I will try to offer up some interesting content for you. Eventually, I hope to be blogging on a regular basis again as well. And of course if you have comments, questions, etc. you can always write me at jsATjsgilbert.com The AT is to confuse the webbots and is @.

My personal page is completely open, so you should have no problems commenting, etc.

I'm not going to shut this page down just yet, but unless I see any real good reason to, I don't plan on using it for anything and eventually will delete it.

Today's Gilbertism: Understanding the importance of how Data becomes Information becomes Knowledge becomes Wisdom is a key in so many aspects of growth.

This Wiki is a good place to start.

The DIKW Pyramid, also known variously as the "DIKW Hierarchy", "Wisdom Hierarchy", the "Knowledge Hierarchy", the "Information Hierarchy", and the "Knowledge Pyramid",[1] refers loosely to a class of models[2] for representing purported structural and/or functional relationships between data, infor…

Thanks to the SF Cutters for a terrific event last night. This is me with Dan May, President of Black Magic Design. Considering they've only been making video cameras for 2 years, they have to be the best freaking thing going. 4k cameras that cost $6,000 complete and an incredible line of "cine cameras' - HD, 2.5k and 4k.

Also a big thanks to Adobe. They are so cool about letting industry organizations take over their incredible space. And the presentation on Creative Cloud was great. Yes, that was me who suggested we hold hands and sing Kumbaya when the computer skized out.

Gilbertism says: "Just because you have something to say doesn't mean that anybody wants to hear it". One way to think about your posts is "Would you stand up in a Grocery Store and say whatever it is you're saying in your post?"

Somethings are best said to a close friend, family member or perhaps the family pet; maybe a psychiatrist.

So, if you wouldn't stand up in the supermarket and (in a loud voice) say "My clients are the best in the world. I actually had one tell me today that they decided they were paying me too little and upped my pay. Woo Hoo!"

Then perhaps saying it in social media isn't the "ticket" either.

Just a thought.

Today's Gilbertism: When it comes to taking advice, consider whether the self-proclaimed marketing guru is in reality working nights at the counter of a Taco Bell.

Today's Gilbertism Tip: In social media particularly, pay more attention to what is NOT being said and to who isn't saying it.

Stop and think about this for a while and if it doesn't sink in, send me a private.

Today's Gilbertism: When it comes to marketing, success comes from being a "welcome disruption". Do you make me think, laugh, glad that I took the time to listen (pay attention) to your message. Do you provide a value?

Clayton Christensen (Harvard Business School professor) says that "a disruption displaces an existing market, industry, or technology and produces something new and more efficient and worthwhile. It is at once destructive and creative."

The bottom line is, Will I be happy that I "disrupted" my day (or moment) to pay attention to your message?

Gilbertism reveals a personal thought: With all this talk of empowerment, and my allegedly being so empowered, I seem to get tired awfully easy.
