Natural Selection March 29, 2020 By Gary Duncan You’re fourteen maybe and it’s Friday afternoon and it’s double science, the last lesson of the week. Maybe that’s why you say it or maybe it’s the heat, the stuffy classroom, the trickle of sweat running down your back. Maybe it’s just Mr....

The Toughest Guy in the Room February 12, 2020 By Chris Rhatigan One of the things I found refreshing when I discovered dark crime fiction (or noir or pulp or whatever you want to call it) was that it didn’t need a hero. Heroes in mainstream fiction and movies are often flawed but in inconsequenti...

Throwback Thursdays: Isaac Kirkman’s Noir Affliction Interview – Out of the Gutter

Today at Out of the Gutter magazine founding editor and Gutter Books publisher Matthew Louis presents his first edition of Throwback Thursday:

Originally published 1/10/13, a few weeks ago this interview began getting a surprising number of hits, and wound up among Out of the Gutter’s all time most popular posts. A small amount of investigation revealed that the interviewee, a talented young writer persevering despite a hellish disease, passed away on January 2nd of this year. It seems appropriate to make this our first feature as we delve into the archives. This is part of the “Noir Affliction” series created by the great Ryan Sayles.

New and Improved Gutter Operations – Out of the Gutter

NEWS ALERT: New Website and New Address for TFFO!
SUBMISSIONS for TFFO are also presently CLOSED

Jesse, Jim and Mick here. 3 cheers for Gutter Books founder and TFFO creator Matthew Louis for creating and launching a new website for Gutter content. At the moment Out of the Gutter Online is "OFFLINE" and not accessible for use or viewing. (Blogger sends out a "canned message" telling those who go to the old site that they haven't "been invited." How RUDE of Blogger.)

Today we officially launch the new site with a News message from Mr. Louis. We hope you'll give that a read and say "hello" to Matt, who wrote the hard-hitting crime novel THE WRONG MAN, which published in 2014. Now that's he's off the lam, Matt's got some book publishing plans on the horizon: hope you'll stay Alert for those!

Matt's presently locked out of Facebook but you can reach him on the website. Hope you'll bookmark the address. You can also find the new web address anytime here on FFO's FB page: http://outofthegutter.gutterbooks.com/

Cheers y'all and thanks for your support! We're looking to run a new flash story Wednesday to get the 2020 party underway.

Thanks for the invite. I need a like minded community,
ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS,
Exciting news on the writing front -- and a hearty welcome to the crew at newly-formed Rock and a Hard Place Magazine! Editors for the mag include Jay Butkowski and Roger Nokes. Both have the distinction of having crime tales published at Flash Fiction Offensive among other places. But if I got my facts straight, this crew will be publishing stories across genres. Once they've got their ducks in a row, I hope they'll swing by FFO and have a chat with Mr. Messy Business Jason Beech. Meanwhile they certainly have our best wishes -- and we hope you'll check them out. Cheers!
