Who’s Out There—Good News For Life’s Chances In Space

Archives of Varok author Cary Neeper on the chances for living organisms out there...

It all started with a mystery. Where did the methoxy come from? Ch3O was discovered in the Perseus Molecular cloud in space 600 light years from Earth, where temperatures are near absolute zero, too low to supply enough energy for hydroxl (OH) and methanol (CH3OH) to react and form methoxy.

Review: A Place Beyond Man and The Webs of Varok – the first two books in Cary Neeper’s Archives of.

Great writeup of the first two novels in Cary Neeper's "Archives of Varok" series, from the good folks over at Resilience.org:

When Cary Neeper first published excerpts of her novel The Webs of Varok on Resilience.org, one commenter dismissed the work as being “merely a polemic pretending to be a novel.” Only the first charge is correct. The book clearly is an impassioned polemic against the extravagance and destructiveness...

The Archives of Varok

From Frank Kaminski, Reviewer for Resilience.org
The Webs of Barok "...quite a good and thought-provoking tale.
"The only cause for complaint about Cary Neeper’s new novel The Webs of Varok is that it has been far too long in coming. It is a follow-up to her breakout novel of 38 years ago titled A Place Beyond Man, which was a fine, memorable exemplar of the `70s genre of ecological science fiction. Well, I’m happy to report that the intervening decades have not dimmed Neeper’s storytelling ability nor dampened her ambition. Her new novel is every bit as engaging, multi-layered, provocative, and above all relevant to the times, as the original. And it's only the first in a line of follow-ups that Neeper has planned for the coming years—we're to eventually have a total of five novels certain to entertain and inspire a whole new generation of readers."

Humans live by myths and stories. In fact, it has been said that the future belongs to whoever has the best story. What better way, then, to instill the idea of a sustainable steady-state Earth than through a science-fiction fantasy? Cary Neeper's The Webs of Varok takes on this task with so many al...
