I BROKE A STRANGER’S CAR WINDOW TO RESCUE A DOG — AND THEN THE UNEXPECTED HAPPENED. On an extremely hot day, I noticed a German Shepherd trapped inside a silver car with steamed-up windows and no ventilation. The dog was clearly suffering, panting hard. There was a note on the windshield with a phone number. I called the owner, who replied, “I left water for her. Stay out of it.” But the sealed bottle inside offered no help. Realizing the urgency, I smashed the window despite the alarm blaring. The dog immediately collapsed into my arms. The furious owner then showed up, threatening to call the cops.
