As an artist who has performed on many stages, in many venues, and for many occasions, let me offer a few thoughts on this important trending topic.

First, it begins with clarity of purpose. Organizers, know the heart of your event. Once you do, consider which artist genuinely fits that vision, whether it’s someone currently trending or an artist whose presence itself will draw the right audience. When you reach out to their team, share the theme of the program and even suggest a few songs that align with your message. If possible, attending or reviewing a dress rehearsal can ensure everything flows smoothly. (Dunno if dress rehearsal is a thing in LIB).

For my fellow artists: know your audience. Even if every detail isn’t provided upfront, have your team gently seek clarity. Prepare a set that respects the occasion and connects meaningfully with those in attendance.

Sidebar: A gentle reminder to organizers, sometimes our favorite artist might not fit the musical needs of a particular event, but there may still be a beautiful place for them. Maybe their real gift to your event is a short, heartfelt story of resilience. We all have journeys that can inspire others.

Double sidebar: a note on adapting artistry: the songs I perform in a vibrant club setting are not the same ones I’d bring to an elegant five-star dining experience. Understanding the space, the mood, and the moment is part of the craft, and the care, we bring as performers.

Urgent National Call: Secure Monetization Rights for Liberian Digital Creators

Dear Liberia Telecommunications Authority, Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism (MICAT) and National Government:

Liberia’s creative minds are shaping our culture, economy, and global reputation, yet they struggle to monetize their work on digital platforms. Many African nations like Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, etc:, have established frameworks to secure fair pay for content creators from social media giants. It’s time Liberia does the same.

We urge you to:
1. Engage platforms like Meta (Facebook/Instagram), TikTok, and YouTube to enable monetization for Liberian creators.
2. Streamline payment systems so earnings reach creators seamlessly (e.g., partnerships with local banks or mobile money).
3. Protect intellectual property to ensure our stories and art benefit Liberians first.

A sizable number of Liberia’s youth are online creators. Their talent deserves reward, not exploitation. The same youth you call “future leaders” are there watching.

This is not just about revenue, it’s about dignity, innovation, and keeping Liberia competitive. The world is watching; let’s lead.

Creators are voters, remember that in 2029.
