Years ago I wrote “get published in a fitness magazine” on my vision board.

Next conference I went to, I sat down and the woman next to me happened to be the editor of Fitness Magazine. I knew that was my shot. We swapped info, I pitched her a few ideas, and I got published. ✨

Here’s what I’ve learned about vision boards (and yes, I know that sounds a little woo-woo coming from a business coach 😉)… they’re not magic. When you get crystal clear on what you want, you actually start to SEE the openings when they show up. You can’t hit a target you can’t see.

And a vision for your business without a plan? That’s just a pretty collage.

The vision tells you WHERE you’re going. The plan is how you get there.

That’s exactly what we’re building next week — a workshop to get clear on your vision AND map out the strategic plan to make it happen this year.

People ask how we run a business together without driving each other crazy.

Honestly? It took us a while to figure it out. 😄

Here’s the version we don’t always say out loud:

In the beginning we were both doing everything. Both weighing in on everything. Both having VERY strong opinions about things that weren’t our lane.

Alwyn had opinions about my email subject lines.

I had opinions about his programming.

We were both wrong. And we were both annoying about it.

Here’s what finally worked:

We started treating each other like the world-class hire we actually were.

His lane: everything on the gym floor. Training, programming, coaching. That’s his genius. I don’t touch it.

My lane: the business, the education brand, Results Fitness University. That’s mine. He stays out of it.

And when we respect those lanes? We are UNSTOPPABLE.

When we don’t? It’s a very long Tuesday. 😂

26 years in and we’re still learning. Still course-correcting. Still showing up together.

If you’re building something with a partner — define the lanes early. Put it in writing if you have to. It’s not about who’s in charge.

It’s about who’s responsible for what.

That clarity is everything.

Drop a 👇 if you’re building with a partner and you KNOW exactly what I’m talking about.

Unpopular opinion.

There are a lot of people teaching gym owners how to run their business who don’t actually own gyms.

No clients. No team. No staff member who called in sick at 5:45 on a Monday morning.

They post beautiful photos of their mastermind events — gorgeous venues, great lighting — but you never see their gym. You never see their members. You never see the actual business they built.

Because there isn’t one.

I’m not saying business coaching isn’t valuable. It is. But there is a massive difference between someone who studied the theory…

And someone who has been on the gym floor for 26 years, put out those fires, built those systems, hired that team, and is still standing. 💪

One of those people actually knows what YOUR Tuesday feels like.

Next time someone pitches you on gym business coaching — ask them one question:

Can I see your gym?

We’ll show you ours. 26 years of it.

Shoot me a DM if you want to come visit!

Throw back Thursday to our 2019 Mastermind 😂 Good Vibrations came on and apparently I had no say in the matter.

Next week we do it all over again, and I’m just as fired up as I was back then.

A room full of gym owners ready to run their business like the CEO they are (instead of being run BY it)? That’s my favorite room in the world.

26 years in and that energy never gets old. THIS is why I do what I do.

If I’ll see you there next week, drop a 🙌 below! If you were in this room buzzing off of the good vibrations from the brain power, ideas and elevated thinking back in 2019 give me a 💃 🕺

If you’re a coach ready to step into becoming a CEO and want to be in the room for our next one DM me & tell me about your business and we’ll figure out your next step.

Nobody warned me that “business meeting” and “workout” would become the same thing.

This is us on a Wednesday😄

Alwyn is my husband. My coach. My business partner. And the person most likely to give me unsolicited form corrections mid-set when I’m clearly not asking.

26 years of building Results Fitness together and I still can’t tell if he’s coaching me or just enjoying it a little too much.

Here’s what a Tuesday actually looks like:

I’m thinking about our marketing, our systems and meetings with our leadership team. He’s thinking about how to coach the perfect hip hinge and teach it to our coaches and clients.

I’m mentally writing emails. He’s figuring out the next progression for an exercise to try to “kill” me.

I’m ready to be done. He adds one more set.

(He’s always right. I will never tell him that.)

The chaos is real. AND it works. We’ve built something together that has changed thousands of lives — and somehow we still like each other at the end of the day.

If you’re building with a partner — spouse, co-owner, best friend — the secret isn’t never disagreeing. It’s knowing whose lane is whose.

His lane: everything that happens on the gym floor. 🏋️

My lane: everything that builds the business beyond it. 📈

26 years in. Still figuring it out. Still showing up together.

The gym taught me more about business than any business book I’ve ever read.

Here’s what I mean.

When I walked into my first gym I thought I was there to get in shape. What I didn’t realize was that I was learning how to be consistent when I wasn’t seeing results yet. How to push through when everything in me wanted to quit. How to trust a process I couldn’t see the end of.

That’s not fitness. That’s EVERYTHING.

Delayed gratification. Emotional control. Showing up even when it’s not working yet.

Those skills carried into 26 years of owning Results Fitness.

Into writing books. Into coaching hundreds of gym owners across the country. Into racing at World Championships at 50 years old. Into coming back from ACL reconstruction.

Most people are wildly underestimating the gym. It’s not just changing your body. It’s changing who you ARE.

When did the gym teach you something that had nothing to do with fitness? I want to hear it 👇
