Today’s the day! Our debut album, Ales and Sails, has officially launched and is now available to buy, download and stream! 🎶🍺

You can now:

💿 Order the physical CD from our website shop

🎵 Buy and download the album from Bandcamp

🎧 Stream it on Spotify, Amazon Music and all the usual music platforms

Simply search for East Cowes Shanty – Ales and Sails. We’ll also put the direct links in the first comment below. 👇when we can, due to the silly link rule changes on facebook.

We are incredibly proud of this album and hugely grateful to everyone who has encouraged us, booked us, shared our posts, sung along and supported us on this slightly mad adventure.

Recorded at Hungry Hound Productions with the brilliant Stuey Heath, Ales and Sails captures the songs, harmonies, humour and friendship that make East Cowes Shanty what it is.

Featuring Pete Badham, Bob Irvine, Ian Carrington, Dusty Cheverton and John Luckett.

If you enjoy it, please give the album a share, add your favourite tracks to a playlist and tell your friends. Every listen, download, CD order and shared post makes a real difference to an independent group like ours.

Tonight, we celebrate properly at Quay Arts Folk Night from 7pm, where we’ll be launching the album live! Entry is free, so come along, raise a glass and sing with us. 🍻

Ales and Sails is officially LIVE!

Thank you for coming on the voyage with us.

Album Review: Sail On
Released Date: September 19, 2026

From the arid desert to the vast sea, the metaphor master Secret Harbor returns with their fourth album, "Sail On," and indeed, we shall sail on. This seafaring adventure is rich with metaphorical storytelling, conflicts, festivities, emotional struggles, and much more, inspired by traditional sea songs and shanties.

The Landlubber and the Seaman: The "Cowboy Shanty" tells the tale of a man who departs from the desert to embrace life at sea. The musical essence and atmosphere have a vibe of the legendary western song Ghost Riders. Meanwhile, "There's a Whale" unfolds the story of a sailor deeply engrossed in his labor and making questionable decisions, perpetually pursuing the whale and never finding a place to call home.

The Monster in the Deep: The next pair of songs delve into inner conflicts. Encountering a destructive force and the dread of being engulfed by it, "The Kraken" presents this narrative in a lively manner. Meanwhile, "Water is Deep" shifts to a more profound tone with its gentle guitar riff, about a shipwreck, hidden struggles, and emotional complexity.

These are my takes on 4 out of 12 songs on this amazing album, where each song unfolds its unique stories and metaphors, guiding you on your own personal journey.

If you relish the aroma of a victorious sea battle (gunpowder and scorched timber), then Black Sails is your ideal pirate fragrance. I've been using it, and I absolutely adore the scent.
