On Halloween 3 yrs ago, I was the last person in my family to see my sister Ivoree alive. I was up late at night editing music, she was getting ready to head out to catch an early morning flight to Texas. I asked her if she had protection like pepper spray or something, & with a big grin, she pulled out her big knife she nicknamed “Sheila”.
Gone for a week & a half, the day finally came to where she was supposed to land. Expecting a call from her in the morning to confirm she landed - we instead receive a call from a Houston hospital giving us news she was on life support & recommended we take the next flight out. After landing, we spent 12 hours with her until they confirmed she went home with the Lord. The “friend” she was last seen with - an off duty cop - never reached out to us. After a criminal investigation & case, we lost out in getting justice for Ivoree due to lack of evidence, even though we had evidence that pointed to his involvement, & Ivoree’s wounds not matching the story he gave investigators.
Today marks another year since Ivoree’s life was taken, but her spirit never left my heart. 💔
Time moves on, but the ache doesn’t fade — it just learns to live beside the love. Grief is the price we pay for love. I still hear her (loud-a**) laughter in quiet moments, still feel her light guiding me when things get heavy. She had a way of making everyone feel seen, loved, and understood.
I’ve been doing my best to carry the torch she left behind — taking care of her baby, Caine, who still looks for her sometimes, eyes soft and knowing. I tell him she’s still here, just in a different way. 🕊️
I’ve also been stepping up for Dad, doing what I can to help hold us together, to be the strength she always was. Many days it’s hard, but I can feel Ivoree’s presence in every act of love, every bit of effort to keep our family strong.
I miss you, We**ee — more than words could ever hold.
But I promise, your light still burns bright through all of us. ❤️✨
