My soul exulted while reading this magnificent book just thinking about our bright possibilities if we all worked together in peace, love, and justice, in equal measure to all God’s creatures. Never forgetting that the forest, the oceans and the sky are our kin, too. The author presents a future that we still have time to shape. She weaves together history, mysticism, democratic ideals, and sacred activism into a call to action in support of true patriotism, not just blind loyalty. This book is a spiritual guide that directs us toward our sacred responsibility to make daily, ordinary choices that benefit the whole of humanity. It is an invitation to remember who we are, where we came from, and to rise in unity to meet with others who share this miracle called life. We are shown that to be a new patriot does not mean allegiance to flag or nation, but allegiance to life itself. I very much enjoyed all the wonderful quotes in this book by enlightened scholars and by real-world tools at the end of each chapter inviting us to go within, to think, then dive deeper. To ask the hard questions of what kind of ancestors do we want to be, knowing the measure of society is truly how it treats its most vulnerable. “A New Patriotism” is about reclaiming the soul of our nation. I do highly recommend this book. One last thing I want to mention. I am a writer/editor myself and I was quite astonished by the extraordinary technical writing skills of Ms. Morningsong. It’s a brilliant book, excellent writing…please have a look.
