LIFE LESSON:

Tax Post - informational only โบ๏ธ
I help my adult son file his taxes every year (they are very simple). Itโs him, his wife and 2 children. Both of them are employed with his wife carrying the insurance. They had no changes in employment, family size, etc from 2024 to 2025. Taxes were done at the beginning of the week and submitted electronically, only to be rejected!!
The reason was the needed to submit form 8962 for premium tax credits or submit their 1095-A, for having Marketplace insurance. They never had Marketplace insurance!! I advised my son to call Marketplace to see if they could help him and they could!
Someone got insurance for him 7/01/25 in the state of TX (we live in Wi). They started another plan for 2026 too!
This got escalated to their fraud team and it will be closed with no penalty, however, now he canโt submit his taxes until he gets a form from them to send in with his taxes. He also now needs to do all the credit monitoring โthingsโ.
He asked what the benefit of someone doing this would be? The answer was, insurance commission fraud! I had no idea this was a thing! Iโm putting this out here in the event it happens to you or someone you know.
Just another reminder we need to keep our stuff safe. Even when we think itโs protected, people are good ๐
Thank you, Mandy! ๐
