Today, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue spent the day training at the Harrison County Sheriff’s Farm while enjoying an early 4th of July cookout with our team.

🇺🇸 4th of July Safety Tip: If you’re heading out to celebrate, always let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return. Whether you’re boating, hiking, or watching fireworks, a simple plan can make all the difference if something goes wrong.

Today, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue hosted a joint agency Search and Rescue training drill at Flint Creek in Wiggins, Mississippi.

The scenario involved two overdue fishermen after a boating accident. One fisherman presumed to have drowned and the other who was in the surrounding woods. Agencies worked together to conduct overland searches, shoreline operations, K-9 deployments, boat operations, drone operations, and dive team searches. The exercise focused on incident command, search tactics, interagency communication, and resource coordination in a realistic training environment.

We would like to thank all of our partner agencies and volunteers who participated and helped make this training a success. Working together allows us to strengthen our skills, build relationships, and improve our ability to respond when our communities need us most.

Today we honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to our country. Their courage and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

We would also like to thank the members of our team who have served or are currently serving in the United States military. Your dedication to both our community and our country does not go unnoticed.

Memorial Day Safety Tip: If you are hiking, boating, or exploring outdoors this weekend, always let someone know your plans and expected return time before heading out. A simple check in plan can make a major difference during a search and rescue emergency.

Tonight, a line of storms will move through the region ahead of the next cold front. These storms could produce damaging wind gusts and a few tornadoes.

A Wind Advisory is in place for portions of coastal Mississippi from 4am to 7pm Monday. North winds between 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph are expected late tonight into tomorrow evening.

Mariners, as the cold front arrives and passes, winds will increase to 30-35 kt with higher gusts.
A Small Craft Advisory is in effect from 7pm this evening until Monday morning at 4am.
A Gale Warning is in effect from 4am Monday morning through 7pm Monday evening.
