Sophisticentric Beauty came about after noticing there was a lack of black beauty supply store owners in an industry where black people are the primary consumers. Also, many of the products purchased are marketed towards black people, but not owned. Sophisticentric Beauty is an e-commerce beauty supply marketplace and a virtual scheduling platform for beauty, barber, and wellness professionals. Sophisticentric Beauty is a community for melanated individuals to purchase products by black owned businesses, schedule their beauty, barber, or wellness needs with black professionals, become informed, entertained, and most importantly UNIFY. The name derives from the words Sophisticated and eccentric. We as black people are so unique, versatile, and non-monolithic. We come in so many shades with different personalities and walks of life. History and much of society has deemed our style, hair, facial features, and skin as undesirable, unprofessional, and unsophisticated. The way we look and the way we are may be unconventional to many, but we no longer feel the need to conform to societal standards of beauty. We are so many things one word couldn’t suffice. Sophisticentric Beauty’s purpose is to inspire its SophistiPros, CentricSellers, and Sophisticentric Beauties and Gents (customers) to aspire to become the best at what they do, love the skin they’re in, unify and uplift the community all done through beauty.
